I just bought a 79 d60 and took it all apart and the ring gear has 46 teeth on it. so does that mean that it is 4.56? thanks

if you've got it apart count the pinion teeth as well

if they are spicer gears they have a bunch of numbers stamped in the ring gear. If it says ??-46 or something like that then divide the ?? by 46

Damn... kidz don't learn anything in school these days.

46/10 = 4.60 (not 4.56)
46/11 = 4.18
46/12 = 3.83
46/13 = 3.54

Algebra time: 4.56 x 9 = 41

well will it be a problem to have 4.60:1 in the front and 4.57:1 in the rear?

If its got 46 teeth on the ring gear its most likely got 3:54's. Just count the teeth on the pinion and divide.
