: Leaf Spring Question

I ran my rig for the first time since my completed SOA. I un folded the spring clamps to get more articulation. I realized on the articulation ramp that when my spring was un-flexing it was getting hung up on the opened clamp and then popping back into place...Question??? Should i drill holes in the top of the clamp and sleve and bolt the clamp to keep it from expanding past the top of the clamp??

Note: the pic is from an earlier post, just thought i would post a pic so you know what i am asking.

Not a bad idea at all.

My spring clamps pretty much all went away over time tho..

i would just open them up a little more so the clamp acts as a funnel and puts the spring back in place

I would clamp it back up and then make another clamp to make sure those ones dont come lose. This mod will fatigue your springs very quickly if you actually use it off road. Its not worth it to ruin your spring for a bit more flex.

Ramp it or twist it in a wash and get out to see how far it moves. Make extensions to weld onto the existing clamps that are tall enough to put a bolt above maximum height so as to not limit articulation but still insure alignment of leafs.

Why not trim your power steering plate? The part of the plate its hitting does nothing anyways.

My clamps rubbed just like that. Few minutes with the grinder and they were cut flush with the spring, both sides, both springs.

Just weld a piece of flat steel across the top, a lot easier than drilling.

that metal drills easily.. I'm running 1/4" bolts through all of mine.

I see I taught you well. :flipoff2: Working up until the last minute. You know those late nights will get the neighbors on you. See you Wednesday night.

From what I have seen also, opening them up will work the springs and wear them out much more quickly than leaving them closed. At the least I'd do like you said and drill the ends and put a bolt through to stop them from coming out. My Skyjacker springs are like that.

Does it really make that much of a difference having them opened?? I did that with the last set I had, and Mine splated out bigtime, but then of course I just cut them off like AZ did. The Lazy way. I have stoc springs now, so I get to start over.

On an OME rear spring setup:

OME113A and OME113B, do A and B mean driver and passenger side respectively?
