Oddly enough, I've come across 3 Chevy 1 tons in the last year with Caddy 500's swapped into them. All dually's, only one a crewcab, and all for sale, or sold to people I know.

The project: 1988 GMC 1-Ton Crew Cab

Fresh Caddy 500, Turbo 400, NP-205, FF 14b. (4.11:1 on 38"TSL's)

Currently hunting for good 89-91 Suburban Silverado sheetmetal.

Hammering out details for engine install and checking out lift options.

'evening gents. Heres my '86 crew project, cab body is done. Factory optioned 454 w/th400-205. Undecided on what to do with the rear, I have a box for it but it is near FUBAR, so I'm looking at decking it, with a shackel reversal and lift springs in the front. Also have an intercooled cummins out of a '95 and an '01 nv5600 looking for a home in the beast.

Hey Demon76,

Looks like we are on similar projects :p ... to bad we are 3hr apart (snoman from 4Wheeler)

Here is a tip for everyone concidering a shackle flip on a CC frame (3/4T or 1Ton). You'll need to get a set of front hanger from a 4x4 1/2T or 3/4T (on right) and a set from a 1T (on left). Take the backing plate the 1/2-3/4T hanger and bolt it to the 1T hanger, then bolt that combination to the rear frame. This will replicate the stock rear shackle mount exactly.

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/1/web/2161000-2161999/2161818_2_full.jpg

I will update with pics when I get the hanger completed.

It actually is that clean. Friggin' sweet!

I am currently looking around for a cheap deal on spray in bedliner and some clear for the rockers. Good idea!

Picked it up today finally, it just keeps pulling! I love that big block feeling. Now my other 350'd trucks feel so weak. It's a tragedy!

Not the greatest picture.

The truck started life as a 2 wheel drive. It has been converted to 4 of course, also switching to a 465 with hydro, and dropping a 500 caddy in there.

how is that done? Section a longbed frame? Nothing else gives the right wheelbase, does it???

u2slow
01-21-2006, 11:17 AM
how is that done?

Start with a longbox crew. Whack 14" out of the frame between the cab and axle. Then take a few inches off the back.

An extra 'gotcha' in the fuel tanks... have to use the 16-gallon shortbox tanks or come up with something different.

yeah, it really is pretty clean. The tailgate is pretty rusty, apparently it was never on (camper truck for an old guy) and it was stored flat on the ground behind a barn. Easily replaced though. Very minor rust at the rear of the flares too, that'll get fixed soon enough. Overall it's pretty clean, very good start for a really nice tow rig...

I just bought a NEW 8" Superlift System with Shocks and brake lines for my Ugly project. Caddy motor is getting bolted up to the trans 12-6-06 CUSTOM engine mounts soon to follow. Chasing a new set of 589 type wheels for my 38x12.50-16.5 Swamper SX's.

Yea it will be an 80's style Mall crawler :shaking: :grinpimp: :flipoff2:
