My first time attempting to shave. The 14 bolt took forever since all I had was a 4'' grinder. The 60 was quicker but I didn't realize the housing was so thin a 1/2in. in from the face. Oh yea I know its fugly:flipoff2:

Look to be only smoothed to me, I don't see any shaving going on there.

????
How much did you gain on the RC60?
Did you break through? Are you going to weld a plate in there?
I can't tell if that is worth it or not....

The 14bolt lip is completly gone, which makes a 3/4in. to 1in. increase in clearence. Most importantly though is that there are no sharp edges or huge lips at all.
The 60 lip was ground down at least a half inch. And yes I did break through the housing, it's in the pictures.:smokin:
I could have ground down even more but then it would have gotten to the point were I would have to plate the whole bottom and/or cut down the ring gear(stuff I didn't want to do).
I believe it was worth it even though I didn't gain the kind of clearence the big companies do on their housings. Figuire the couple hours spent grinding down and smoothing:flipoff2: your diffs, means you will less likely not get hung up and if you do they will have less friction cause you to slip over stuff you would have been stuck on before.
wow that 60 was thin.
Which end is the rr60 go on? front or rear?

The front
It seem to be just that section that is so thin. In front and back of the hole was very thick. It caught me by suprise since I didn't open it up to look at the inside till after the hole formed. I assumed it was thick like my 14b was.
RR 60 up front. You only need a reg. 60 ...
Sell me your RR.... I need it ... :D
Your pics show the hole very well. It should be ok after you weld.

I am curious to know the pinion height from centerline of the 14 bolt? How does it compare to the 9 inch or the standard cut D60??? If my memory is right the 9 inch is like 2 3/8" below center and the D60 is 1 1/8" below
center. Anyone know the 14 bolt???

Here's the 80 I did last week. It was cut all the way down and 1/2" plate added. Measures 5 3/4" below axle center line. About a 1" gain.

Heres with the cover.

Are you going to grind out those bolt holes on the 14 bolt?
How thin is it there now? and 3rdly how do you keep it from leaking?
Just curious because I was thinking of doing this but not as much.

Bossgrip, I added my finished 14bolt pics the the album.
The bottom is 3/8ths in. thick and in the recess for the magnet its roughly a 1/4in. thick. I stoped grinding in the last pic where the lower bolt hole was halfway cut through. I then just filled it with weld and evened it out. By adding a little extra rtv at the lowpoint I think it shouldn't leak, we'll have to see I haven't got that far yet.
clc900, from centerline the pinion is roughly 3/4 - 1in. below.(not sure if I measured it accuratly my eyes were blurry:zzz: sorry)
From centerline to bottom was 6in. conservitive I guess. Anyone know the stock measurement? updated 14bolt (http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/scottsbent70/lst?&.dir=/14+bolt&.src=ph&.view=t&.last=1)
