After a SHORT wheeling session in my little brothers truck the transfer case began to leak at the joint between it and the transmission. I tightened up the bolts as far as I felt comfortable, didn't feel like braking a stud off in the transfer case. What I need to know is if this is a common problem and if I need to just pull it and replace the seal, I know this is newbie tech, but its in the dodge section cause I'm not real familiar with this truck. Thanks for any information

Auto or Manual?
Manuals have a seal on both TC and tranny side (NV4500/NP231HD, anyway) so there shouldn't be any leakage on either one. Does it look like ATF (transfer case) or gear lube (tranny)?
Auto's I would suppose would be a little harder to diagnose, unless you are seeing a lower fluid level in one or the other.

we can tell it is the transfer case leaking as the level has dropped, it is an auto tranny, will be dropping the t-case tomorrow to diagnose the problem
