My father got a '95 Hummer this weekend and drove the thing up to the local mountains and says its a dog, and he wants to get more power so. Its a NA 6.5, ive read about injectors swaps, and a computer flash but will those work since its not a GM truck? Also what other options does he have for increasing power besides swapping a different engine into it.

increasing compression. Compared to a Powerstroke or Cummins the 6.5s are lacking on compression. Might require a rebuild with better pistons and cutting the heads but you'd get the compression and power up. Of course there is the turbo thing. Or squish a big block in there...

6.5 have higher compression than the Cummins, and also the Powerstroke AFAIK.

I think the only thing that will make enough of a difference to make that slug move would be a turbo.

well I know I was looking at a 6.5 turbo unit, maybe the compression is different( I would imagine so now that I think about it) on the turbo version. I know on the Turbo 6.5 the compression is lower.

Search google.

The C/R on the Turbo 6.5 is lower because with it will detonate like made when the turbo spools if it wasnt.

If you're looking for a simple power boost...you can increase fuel pressure. Diesel's don't run rich...you put more fuel in, they make more power. It's a pretty easy power boost. Be careful though...too much fuel = high EGT. If you decide to really crank down on the regulator, invest in a pyrometer for your EGT. It'll tell you when you're pushing it too hard. I think Petersen's did a how-to article on this a while back...you might search their site for it at www.4wheeloffroad.com
A turbo is a good idea, of course. Several aftermarket kits to choose from.
Also consider propane injection...
Here's a site you might like to look at:

Hope some of this helps...
