: Trash on the Trail

Howdy all,

If I am posting incorrectly I look forward to the flames.

I’ve run the Rubicon two times this season and so far I have seen more trash left up than I would have thought possible.

Normally I find a few beer cans and such and pick them up. We all have had things fall out of our rigs, so no big deal. This time however we found piles of them in different locations. We filled 1 and half garbage bags worth of trash that wasn’t ours.

This also applies to things like broken parts, cigarette butts, etc… It is really making me sick to see how dirty the trail is getting, and it is only June. :mad3: :mad3: :mad3:

This has got to stop!!!! How can we spread the word to the fools who do this? Apparently some people don’t understand pack it in pack it out.

Is it possible for us to erect a sign at Loon and the springs that's more to the point? Such as (The trail will be closed if Trash is left up here!!!)

Some creative more to the point signage might be warranted.

Ideas or thoughts please.

I just got back from the con yesterday and was also amazed at the trash but it was only in the camp areas it looks like people would go through camp on the way out and pick up all the garbage then leave it there in bags for someone else to pick up.

the worst thing was the ciggarette buts left everywhere. smokers have no respect or they are so used to just throwing them out the window driving down the road that they dont think about it.

no wonder I passed hundreds of burned areas next to the freeway in the sac area.

I appreciate your cleaning up after irresponsible wheelers. Thank you. :)

The best thing to do IMHO is to pack out more than you bring in, join forces with Del Albright, Friends of the Rubicon, Blue Ribbon Coalition and others fighting to keep trails open and educate people on why resposibility is important.

Check this thread (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=257120) out for info on the trail patrol now in the works.

Whoa, back off there! That's a pretty lame condemnation. Kinda like me saying I found a empty beer can on the trail and I saw you drinking a beer, therefore you left the empty can.

People who trash the trails have no respect; whether it be leaving the leftovers, throwing down their butts or taking a crap and leaving it. Let me tell you what, I've hauled a hundred times more trash out of the 'Con in the last 4 years than I did in 20 years before 1980. Cans, trash, tires, lawn furniture, you name it.

Don't ping on me because I'm a smoker and you don't like cigarettes because, quite frankly, you have never seen me drop a butt on the trail or throw one out of my window. The assholes who throw their butts down are the same assholes who leave their trash for me to clean up.

Beat up on them, but don't categorise me because you don't like my cigarettes. Understand?

no I dont understand.
you have a little bit of a smoking issue with your self it seems. and I never said you but if you were out there last weekend then I apoligize but I dont think you were so no apology made :smokin:

I cant remember how many times I had to yell at people in our own group that were smoking and throwing them on the ground. after a while they got the hint but I think its just something that 99% of smokers dont think about but think god you do. that sure makes me feel a lot better and breath easier

Always remember . . . It's not what a person say but how they say it. BW made a statement that categorises all smokers as having "no respect" By connotation, I smoke, therefore I have "no respect". If you're a smoker then you have "no respect". If your family smokes, they have "no respect".

People who throw their trash down, regardless of what that trash may be, have "no respect". They are slobs, pigs or whatever you want to call them. I don't care to be lumped in with the slob element any more than you.

I would suggest you broaden your grasp of the nuances and subtleties of the english language. Now go away, you bother me!

Well firist of all I am a smoker and I started this tread. So just relax and feild strip you butt. You know knock the paper part off and keep the butt. I was hoping we could come up with some creative Ideas on letting people know about the issues.

Get a better class of people in your group.

the class isnt the problem its that las vegas mentality that they must have brought up with them.
it didnt take long for them to remember where they were but any type of trash bothers me wether it be in my yard or on the trail.

First of all Thank You very much for picking up trash. I always do too. Sometimes I see more than other times. But with only 2 trips you should maybe think about coming off saying "it's so bad". It "may" be bad but the trash will not close this trail. Watershed destruction will close this trail. Do not "camp" close to lake shores. Do not leave human waste close to waterways or just lying around. Always go far away and dig or haul it out in a PETT toilet. Simple rules. Do not drive on bushes, and above all do not drive close to a lake shore.

Thanks, Scott

i was up there both times this yr with randy(khunjeep) and i too was extremely pissed off by the amount of trash that i have found and picked up this year...i hate having to do this...not because it takes time out of my trip....but because it kinda hurts to see such beautiful country being damaged by others carelessnes and laziness.....im only 19......and i dont have kids....but someday i plan on having a couple....i want to be able to take my kids up to the con someday...and share what my father has shared with me....i want to be able to pass it on....but probably wont be able to due to a few people laziness.....the incident that sticks out in my mind the most is from this past weekend....our group was stopped along the trail.....right passed gate....and low and behold, whats lying in some bushes....but aboiut 30 beer cans....i mean jesus christ.....is it that hard to tie a burlap sack or two onto the back of your rig and throw the cans in there....a big :flipoff: to those idiots who are a bunch of lazy morons who could care less about mother nature and her beauty

thank you for reading this.....and to those dudes who threw those cans in the bushes....may the fleas of a thousand camels infest you body

Your cigarettes are making you pissy! :flipoff2:

I was with that same group and we self-policed ourselves and made the smokers to field-strip the butts, so :flipoff2: .

We also burried our s@!#$, picked up our beer cans, put out our fires, and helped broken folks on the trail that none of us knew, so if there IS a better class of people, show me.

I saw more TP than anything else! I couldn't believe it. And then, my dog, found a huge pile of something that should have been buried, well you can imagine the rest of the story. Hint: He still smells!

Ideas or thoughts please. Before this thread turns into the argument it shouldn't be :shaking: I'd like to say I'm completely in support of this. Most people follow signs like that because they think they'll get in trouble for it. Hell even a $1,000 Fine for littering sign would be great reminding people the regular rules of the road apply. Most people are just ignorant and only do as much as they are told to.

Hmm Thanks for the heads up I knew about the shore and watershed in the back of my brain. Now it’s in my face.

When I said twice it was for this year, I was worried because we have July 4th coming up.
I was hoping there was something we could do to put thinks in everyone’s face. So even the stupid inbred fxxks can under stand. To stop the trend of destruction.

Thanks all.

well I hate cigarrette smokers they all suck. they stink up my air. don't make fun of me cause I smoke..... wah. :crybaby:

If you see trash on the trail pick it up, instead of coming on here and whinin about it to everybody that picks their own trash up. tell people one the trail, that is where the you will make a difference, the only thing this thread is opening up is a place for people to whine. clean up after yourselves and the person the drops trash in front of you. some people do not even notice what they are doing.I bring plenty burlap sack to clean up after more than myself, DO THE SAME!!!! post the "big problem" with trash and fuel the greenies reasons to shut down the trail. I do not see a big problem with trash on the trail, there are a couple areas that there is a bit. but it is clean by the time I make it through.

Definately do look into a pett system do a search and find them online for cheaper than most retailers. just do us all a favor and get the enclosure too :flipoff2:
