A guy wants to sell me a reverse cut 60 from a 2000 crew cab ford. I don't know much about the new 60's. Is this a 60 or a 50. Of course it has ball joints instead of kingpins. Does it still have 35 spine inners? Are the outers any good. Looks to have sealed bearings and the shitty plastic hubs. Can you even get a crossover steering arm for this truck? He wants $1200 with 4.56 gears and an ARB. What do you guys think?

sounds too good to be true

the 60's were only in the 1 ton dulley's i belive
but yes the sealed front wheel bearing IMO are pretty neat, but $$$
make sure its a 60 not a 50, then jump on it, or let me jump on it

i hear those sealed front bearing units are getting eaten up by big tires. i think its dynatrac that is making a kit to make it more like the old units. guess newer is not always better. king pin is a good enuff reason to buy and older one

Thanks for the info. I found out that it is a dana 50, and that it is junk. I might offer him $500 and use it for a chevy ifs straight axle conversion.

At one swap meet last year I ran into a guy that got a truck load of the D50s. I mean a 53' truckload! I quess he got them when a load was going form Dana to Ford, and wrecked, and Ford wouldn't take them. Not that they should have ever wanted them. He was selling them for $1000. But by the end of the year I think he was way down, $700 sticks in my head for some reason. If anyone would like I can try and find his number and find out. Not the greatest swap but if the price is even lower may be a good cheaper altertive, then a new 60.

In case this hasn't been brought up enough, anything made after 1999 is metric pattern (8 on 170 = 6.69"), not to mention unitized bearings (how'd you like to buy a whole new hub when your bearings get full of silt?).

So unless you want a 10.50 or D70 from a 99+ SD to hang behind that D60, it's pretty much junk.

Ford engineers do dumb stuff sometimes.

them hub bearings are junk. i can replce one in an hour in a parking lot. seem to last about 80k miles. last one blew on the freeway and left me stranded. almost 500 bucks and two days later i was back on the road!
