I would suggest using a Helicoil or similar product to repair the threads after drilling the old stud out. Just determine the old thread diameter and pitch and buy the appropriate helicoil kit, It will come with it's own drill bit and install tool.
Good Luck!

Is a helicoil safe for steering, mostly a trail rig, and do ya think it is stong enough. I might just fill it with weld and re tap it for good measure. i dont ever want to have any probs with it. just trying to fix it right and for good. Has anyone else done the same?

Thanks jeepjake, i may try it.

Post some picks. Is there any of it sticking out at all? If so weld a nut to it, let it cool and while its doing that drip a plumbers candle on it, wont take much.

I've even seen a torch work on a D44 steering knuckle. Scared the hell out of me, but the threads weren't damaged.

I'd try the weld to the broken off bolt thing. The heat cant hurt and having something to wrench against will be a good thing.
