what do i measure?
anything?
im gunna do a double spring flip, shackle reversal 60 series diff swap, and move the rear hanger to the rear of the frame and stuff

should extend the wheelbase by quite a few inches, at least 10 or so, and lift it and widen it!!

tips, ideas, suggestions, BEFORE i strip everything off the frame

i have never done a SO before

if you do a spring flip make sure you flip the second leef so that the military wrap is on the right end. if you dont you may have some problems with the shackles inverting.

sweet, well skippy said he'd help and i never saw him all weekend :(

ill email you some pics, come up this friday night and ill take the weekend off work, and we'll fully get into it

long weekend and all...
will call you today

does anybody cut all the rear spring hangers off and move all these back by about another 2 or more inches?

what sort of angles do the pinions have to be on? i will rotate them and use CV drive shafts, but is there still a tolerance they have to be within?

if you flipped the 2nd leaf..youd hafta re-drill it right? i dont see the point..screw the military wrap. if you break a spring your fawked no matter what.

i am flipping both ends

i have a oress, so drilling them is no worries, well, ive only gotta drill the back 2, the front 2 will be flipped in the shackle reversal!! EASY

seems it anyways, (spring flip anyhow) really seems to be the least of my problems, i did a rear on a SUA vehicle, for departure angle, bigger tyres (easier tub cut) and H41 tailshaft length on a H55F box, (just had to change one flange)

I just finished doing this last weekend. I also outboarded my front for a FW D44, later D60.

Have fun. Drink

Ask Jason Mace for his experience with this...

He tried it, bent 2 springs (has a cool picture of one) and once he put the Military wrap where it belonged all that bending stopped.

Jason?

Hey DavidO, update that website of yours so we can see your Cruiser! :flipoff2:

There's not much to see right now. I have a bunch of crap nearly filling up the 2 car garage. The frame is sitting in the driveway upside down (springs sticking up). The engine, tranny, 4 axles, hood body parts, tub, and tons of misc. crap are all sitting on the floor. I'm surprised the cops haven't paid me a visit yet.

My neighbors love me. :flipoff2:

I've been torn on what wheels to get. My indecisiveness is hurting now as I have no way of moving the big pile around. If I can borrow some for the weekend, I may have it all back in the garage with a rolling chassis by Monday.

May be wishful thinking. :D

I'll post here when I have something worth while. ~dso

My experience? Bad Bad Bad...

Good pics though :D

There are differences in broken springpacks. The military wrap does a really good job of protecting the top leaf. Without it you get neat things like this... I was simply trying to back out of a hole......

ive seen that pic before!!!

anyways, we started this last night, we got 2 cruisers, my BJ42 and my housemates HJ47 and we are putting 60 series diff housings under both of them, for a bit more width, and we got all the stuff oxyed off the front diffs, and got the gussets all cut and the perches all cut and ready, for both front diffs
so we are swinging into the project!!

I reversed my rear springs with spring over,I cut the military rap end off for more travel, have DJ's traction bars, have never had problem kinking spring.

I suspect with a single bar style it would help the kinking spring problem. However it is cheap and easy to flip the military wrap to get a bit of insurance. Personally I will never run a leaf without the military wrap.. I hate replacing parts on the trail....

I redrilled my military wrap after thinking how sh!tty it would be, if I just got off the trill and on to a main road. Then doing about 60 MPH and snap! Can anbody else image the scene?
Its there for a perpose. I was going to leave it alone untill that came to mind. It took me about 1-2 hours to fix at home. Could take a day on the trail. I still flex just asswell either way. I even added another leaf for spring wrap.

i need someone with a digital camera
i have finished it
2.5 inch body lift
2 inch higher rear perches, (welded as part of the perch)
to keep it level
cause i had to lift the front drivers side so much to get the diff central under the car
springs are sagged FLAT (thank god)
but i also have big eye suspension, which came on the late model 40s and was supposed to add some more height

cause its definitely higher than my mates 40 and he has spring over

but my sidestep measures over 80cms from the ground
(im not sure of an inches measurement, but itd be like 5cm = 2 inches, so thatd make it like BIG A$$ED)

WOW
the 35s look so gay

"Flipping" the springs mentioned earlier. My FJ40 has stock suspension. Being a Newbie:flipoff2: Someone please explain this to me, with the ups and downs. Is this a SOA thing, or can I do this with my SUA? I am replacing my spring bushings this summer and want to know if I should/could do this then? The way you guys are talking about this it sounds like something I should already know:(

BJ On Roids

damn, dude, are youfor real?

there is a whole nother topic going on about this same thing...right now

yeah, by all means, do a spring flip, you'll need new tailshaft, new brake lines and possible a handbrake cable, or steering box relocation on the front, depending on your currecnt setup sometimes, barely anything needs changing, sometimes, everything,

do it especially if your springs are flat, but if they are lifted springs, then it is not worth it
