center diff cruiser rear ends stopped in the early 60's (62???)..the rest were all both offset to the pass. side..yes they are tough, i dont know the specs by heart but something like a 9.5" ring gear, almost 1.5" 30 spline shafts (starting in '68 or '69)...lots of people run 36's and bigger w/ little problems, some run from 38.5" and up...negatory on the 8" high pinion toy third member

The shafts are 1.31" 30 spline for TLCs and Mini trucks after 67. The only ways to get a RC 8" diff is to swap in a mini truck front axle, FJ80 front axle, or have a custom made housing.

Toyota Land Cruiser front and rear offset (to the passenger side in LHD, driver side in RHD vehicles) axles were standard from mid-1964 to late-1990 and encompasses all the 55, 60 and 62 series, most of the 40/45 series and the first five years of the 70/75 series. They're very strong axles, not as much as a Dana 60, but comparable to a Dana 44. Birfields would be the weak component if you plan to run 36" tires, but it's still very doable and success will depend on the kind of wheeling you do and to some extent your wheeling style.
