I just found a Dodge Dana 60 out of a 2001 P/u. It does have the driverside drop which is perfect for my application. One thing that really bothers me is the fact that this axle has the vaccuum disconnect on the passenger side axle shaft.

Would a Ford shaft fit? Or do i have to go completely custom on this one?

Anybody have any info on Dodge axles, i dont see to many people swaping them into wranglers or and jeep for that matter. Mainly HP Fords and Chevy axles are being used.

This is going under a 95 YJ, 4.0/AX-15/231/ and 39'5's or 42's.

They don't because of the Vaccume Disco sucks, they are drivers drop but Low pinion not High Pinion like the Fords. The running gear in them is no better then a D44. Pass on it! Most people can't give them away if the buyer knows what they are.

Yeah I was looking into 1-ton-ing my Dodge and the Dodge 60 SUCKS...you'd be better off buying a D44 built up than a stock dodge dana 60.

Aren't those new ones actually ball joint which is the bigger problem than switching to manual hubs? the problem with the 44 and big meat is that the ball joints wear out really quickly aside from the full on the juice binding a wheel issue.

Any Dana 60 post 91 will be ball joint. Ford stopped using the Kind pin in 91 and Dodge did as well. The PITA is that high steer arms for them are difficult to do. I have seen guys adapt 44 high steer arms to the ball joint 60's. The older Dodges are fine, but you have to switch to internal hubs if you want to run 35 spline outers as there isn't an external 35 spline hub to my knowlege.

If you go with a Ford HP ball joing axle, make sure you get one that is pre 98 as sometime in mid 98 ford switched to the metric 8 lug pattern. Also look out for the Dana 50 that is under alot of later F350's. It looks almost identical to the D60 but uses a 44 RP.

Yep, I always forget about that later Dodge axles up until 94, watch out for the 61.

Right now im on the hunt for either Ford 60 or Chevy 60. If i find a Ford 60, ill keep the 231 and just put the auto in. If i find a Chevy 60 ill sell the 231, buy a 203 and buy a 300 and double them up.

Id much rather do the Ford though.
