Can anyone help me? I've never heard of this before. Auto. 350 tranny just took a shit :barf: This tranny was just rebuilt last October, everything new. Absolutely no signs of wear or anything prior to incident. All the sudden, the tranny won't go into gear, forward or reverse. If you try to put it into park, it's just grinding. After inspecting under the truck, I found that the linkage had come undone and lost the pin and washer. Anyway, thinking this was the problem, it wasn't. The same thing is happening with the linkage hooked up properly. Maybe it's the shaft inside, we thought. I dropped the pan and everything looks good. Here's the only info I have. At the bottom of the pan, but only on pass. side of pan, is some black sut. The stuff is gritty, feels like aluminum. Could it be clutch packs? But it's all new. Could it be the filter? Were gonna try the filter, and replace it, it feels a little spongy, I don't know if that's normal, this is my first time inside a tranny. I may be looking for another 350 or 400. Let me know. Any tips will be appreciated. Thanks

sounds to me like the t-case popped into neutral. put the t-case in any gear and try it again! :)

that is what I thought when I read that the pawl was grinding when trying for park. happens all the time if you slip out on the tc and try to hit park.

Well, that was it! What happened was, we sold the truck to a buddy of mine and he called last night and said he thought the tranny was out  . Anyway, that wasn't the case :grinpimp: , the t-case was in neutral and none of us even thought to look at that. :smokin: Of course, dude shared the story of playing with t-case, after the fact. :flipoff2: But he was, happy, I was happy, were all happy. All said and done, I just want to say thank you for responding to my post. Keep up the good "tech" support!!! :grinpimp:
