So Peter, as a newbie here but not a newbie to wheeling and land use issues, I notice the same trend on this bbs as on others, the lack of people reading the stuff! I was looking at the post views, APATHY, APATHY, APATHY. I again want to remind people of the UFWDA Land Use Conference in Phoenix on April 13, the subject of apathy is the primary subject. Come on guys, The Suckling and his CBD and everyone else on their side is rabid about closing us out, they even go so far to plant evidence as you've heard, but we just keep on wheeling and having fun in the smaller and less numerous areas that still exist. Hell, even the Rubicon came very close to be closed this last year, and just well might have without the help of Friends of the Rubicon and others. A gate was iminent, that potentiality was very recently tabled. Sorry, this issue has probably been brought up here before, but it can always stand to be brought up again. See you all (hopefully) in places like Phoenix in April, USFS and BLM meetings, and anyplace else where we can make a difference.

Brad,
It is truly a shame that people aren't awake to the threat. Anything we can do to help overcome this is worth it. It takes lots of patience.
As far as land use bulletin boards go, this is more active than most....

Brad, unfortunately you're right...not enough people are reading this stuff, which means even less are getting involved.... Before the x-mas season (school breaks and work vacations and such) there were alot more people involved in Land Use issues... I'm not sure if everyone just made a "no more closures" New Years Resolution and hoped it would fix itself or what....
I know they're is still a "core" group that passes this stuff on and gets involved, but the "regulars" are "dissappearing" :(
To the contrary of that - I am seeing a lot more "newbies posting in the L/U section and also PMing me for info...I hope this continues....
As forthe Rubicon issue...I think (best we can figure) about 80-85% of the FOTR group was from this board... We also had a private (password protected) forum set up to discuss things and get organized....It was in this forum that Del decided he would take the lead (he recruited all of us to do the footwork) and all the support snowballed. A few others from this board (most of them not even "Pirates" - not taking anything away from the Pirates of the Rubicon, as they are behind FOTR 110%) took on major rolls working with placer county and Lahanton Water District to get the project started and get them to realize that were are willing to do whatever it takes to keep our trails open....
I'm open for suggestions on getting others involved, as always :)

Yep, I did notice this bbs is more active than any other land use one, even more so than ORC. As you know, we rant about this constantly, but ranting is good:mad: . Anyway, you gonna be in Phoenix, I'll be there unless something unforseen happens :nuke: .

I'd like to, but at this point I can't commit to anything....I just got my Bankruptcy BS finished last month and started a new job this week... I dont know what my life will be like in a few weeks...let alone in April...I will try to get there. I'd love to just meet a few people and put faces with names...I think I could learn a lot too... I'll have to wing it (like the rest of my life) for now though :)

Gotta agree that there is just a core group here. Personally I don't post much, as I still tend to get the stuff on the LUN first and then see it here (unless I don't check my email and then get it here first ;) ). I got MTTR to start a Land Use section on our BBS (Suggested it so I got to be moderator too). I post some of the stuff I get there (from the LUN and Southern lists). I think only 2 other people have replied to anything I've posted there. Just hope more are reading it.
I fight the apathy thing alot as most of the big news and actions are out West and don't often directly affect us. Unfortunately I've seen a trend of things hitting out west first, and then hitting around us (Fought a National Monument in AL last year). Some folks just don't get it. Most riding here is on private lands so they don't want to worry, but Tellico is FS land, and I'd really like to get something going in Bankhead, but the GAGs have a strong foothold there already.
Oh well I feel better after the vent now.
