i've got a 1982 ford one ton (2wd) 15 pass van....is the rear a dana 60???? or one of those ford corporate 10.25 or whatever they call them. I'd go look for myself but it's under a foot and a half of snow and the tires are flat.....and it's fawking cold out there.

those ford 10.25 or whatever yah call them are good axles. they are stonger than the d60 in my opinion. so if thats what yah got yah shouldnt be dissappionted. you will have to look though as ford started changing in about that time.

That whatchmacallit corporate thing that's every bit as strong as a 14 bolt or Dana 70 started around '86. Unlikely an '82 would be so equipped. But if you get it dug out I'd be curious to know if your diff is slightly offset to one side or the other, whatever axle it is.

You probably have a D-70, not a d-60. I worked on a friends early 80's van (15 pass extended body) and it was a D-70. check the webing of the diff. it will say D60 or D70.

I would say there is a good chance its a 61...High ratio, but 35 spline...With a ring gear spacer, you could put low ratios in it...

Yep i got mine out of a 87 ford E350

thought it was a 60... nope a 61

differances ive noticed are

1) 3 1/2" tube
2) spindles drilled for 1 1/2" shafts
3) you dont have to pull the axle to change the brakes (the drum comes off seperately)
4) the pig is gusseted way more than a 60
5) you will need a ring gear spacer but you can run 60 gears (up to 7.17)

almost all the vans that were two wheel drive were dana 61s. not sure how to tell without running the numbers from the diff. if it has 4:10s it could be a sixty. either way if you got it free it was worth it.

My '83 E350 had a D70, and yes I know the difference...
