: Love My Parnelli Jones Dirt Grips
SAR_Sammy 01-19-2002, 05:26 PM Tried them, Love them in the snow. I have tried BFG's for years and Boggers, these Dirt Grips are the only tire I have seen bite the snow so hard they pull the motor down and I have to throttle it to keep it going. The other tires I have used just spin when buried. These just keep on biting. Don't know how they will do on the rocks but if they are anything like the performance in the snow then I am a happy camper.
These pics were taken last weekend at Bassi Falls

ONETUFF76 01-19-2002, 06:10 PM how do they handle on the streets? what size are you running and what did you pay for them?
SAR_Sammy 01-19-2002, 07:01 PM They drive just like my BFG/MT's A whole lot better then the Boggers (The Boggers sucked on pavement) The size I am running is 36X14.5X15's They measure up at 36 1/2 inches tall on 10 inch rims. I purchased them in Napa (About a 3 hour drive from me in Placerville {Next to the Rubicon Trail}) Paid just under $1100.00 bucks. Sounds like allot but the Sammy is basicly a trailer rig and these should last me forever. If people are interested, in the morning when the sun is up I'll take a better shot of the factory siping on the tread. As good as anyone else does after buying other tires.

86 Sammy, 44's, 5:89's, locked F/R, 84 inches wide outside to outside tires, GRS I X-fer case, yea yea etc.....
i originally deleted my reply but a freind of mine put some 36x14.50s on his 88 4 runner with 3/4 ton running gear and 22re w/cam, header & K&N filter. His tires did great on the road but when we went wheeling he has to get a tug a few times while others with smaller tires did not have too. But then again it was very muddy and such so maybe a dirt grip is a west coast tire?
Mieser 01-19-2002, 07:32 PM Thanks for posting the info!
I have always wondered how a set would do in the snow. They looked like they had the right tread siping. What kind of pressure are you running? How heavy, or light, is your Sami?
Thanks again for the post
later :jeep:
txranger 01-20-2002, 12:25 AM Dude! thats a killer ride! Thats VERY MUCH like what my plans are bringing me to with my zuk.
NE-RokToy 01-20-2002, 09:53 AM Sweet keep us posted on the dry weather performance. These tires look like they are great offroad, just not many people using them :(
deantac 01-20-2002, 11:49 AM i've been thinking about, getting a set my self. keep us posted, i hope they are good on the rocks also!
twistedmetal 01-20-2002, 02:33 PM My liitle Bro ran them on his YJ. We ran them in the nasty granite of the Black Hills and they ACTUALLY squeal when you sit stationary on a rock and turn the wheel. Super sticky. Wethen took them too a rock quarry over in Omaha, NE. I cut an SX, my cousin took out 3 BF's, and the 'Nelli's shined through! He also put about 2500 miles on them and you could hardly notice. The only complaint I have about them is that they need a lug on the outer edge of the tread face. Something you can shove against a ledge and pull the rig up with.

twistedmetal 01-20-2002, 07:43 PM I think the reason we don't see them on the trail much is due to it's $260 price tag per tire. Other than that, I can't find anything wrong with them.
Nate C 01-20-2002, 10:24 PM yeah the pr$ce and they're a little too wide...a 35 or 36x12.50x15 would interest me more for my yota!!!
My buddy has those on his Blazer.....just because of the "P-J" tread pattern:rolleyes: Anyway he seems to like 'em, and they seem decent for wheelin, but the rears are just about shot after a summer... I think the detroit and LT1 is the cause of that. They just cost way to much:eek:

Man those tires look big, almost thought you had stock axles
Barney 01-21-2002, 10:57 AM I just bought a set of 38.5 for my jeep. I paid $1406 for them (shipping and tax included) They do great in the snow. They go places my 36 sx's wouldn't dream of going. I'd post a pict, but it looks like I'm not allowed to.
Cruiserhaven 01-21-2002, 11:12 AM Nice Ride! Thanks for the pics and review. Let us know how they do on rocks and in mud.
I've been planning on getting the 36"x14.5"s for my FJ60.
So far there seems to be very little feedback from anyone on how these are doing on the trail so it's great you took the time to report on them.
:)

They make a 35x12.50
SAR_Sammy 01-21-2002, 07:51 PM I was thinking of going with 38's (Not that much more$$) but I was concerned with rubbing on the body. The 36's just barley touch so maybe next time the 38's
Who else is running them??

Crawln_TJ 01-21-2002, 08:33 PM I LOVE my DG. They are so awesome in the sand, rocks, and what litttle mud I do there as well. I still drive mine on the street to local trails and they are awesome. No complaints!
Nate C 01-21-2002, 08:51 PM hmmmm...last I heard they didn't make 35x12.50...where did ya find em and how much in that size?
SAR_Sammy 01-22-2002, 07:51 AM Go to this website www.dirtgriptires.com
http://www.dirtgriptires.com/availsz.htm
They have sizes from 31X10.5's 33X12.5's various 35' 36's 37's 38's how much more could you ask for??
Mike
NE-RokToy 01-22-2002, 09:43 AM can anyone compare the PJ sidewalls to that of an SSR? The 37 PJ would be nice if my SSR's don't hold up well
Are those tires fairly round, and do they balance okay?
TNToy 02-12-2002, 04:48 PM It states on http://www.natltire.com that they are "X-Rayed and checked for out-of-round".
And National Tire has them in 35x12.50 for $209.

Alaska ZJ 07-15-2002, 11:23 AM Last post on these tires is from January. Any new Updates From SAR sammy or any of the other PJ DG owners?
Looking at the 37's for my next tire and would not mind getting some more input on thier performance. I am moving out of Alaska next summer (Army is moving me). I am looking at Colorado and Washington so if there are any PJ's from those area's Speak!:flipoff2:
Alaska ZJ 07-17-2002, 05:00 PM BTT come on guys I hope one of you see's this!

Weasel 07-18-2002, 09:34 AM I havn't heard much about them either and am looking. I PM'd Sammy SAR about them and havn't heard back so mabye he's gone or something. I'm really looking at getting these for my first set of non stock 31" tires. Tread life has me alittle worried since it's a DD. They probably aren't good in lots of mud though, which I get into sometimes. If they are as good as the BFG M/T's in mud then I'm getting them. i think. ;)

Good friend of mine has 'em on his '70 Blazer, the 36's. All he does is mall run and go in the mud every now and then. They work better than MT/R's in the mud, but nowhere near a swamper. He has blown 2 PJ's on the road in the past month. He bought the tires a year ago..probably have 5k on 'em. Showing lots of wear in the rear, mostly from the Detroit, and towing.
Aggro 07-18-2002, 09:42 AM mud tires obviously will not do well on the road, what do you expect?
Weasel 07-18-2002, 09:44 AM Thanks Lame.
From what I have found in seems they wear fast with either heavy loads, towing, fulltime lockers, and lots of throttle, none of which I have or do.
I have a fairly lightweight rig, XJ, hardly ever tow anything, 500lb baja at most, don't have lockers, or use the stupid petal tons.
As for the mud it sounds good. I used to blasting throught stuff with BFG A/T's so most anything will be better and I'm not expecting Swamper performance. Looks like I'll be running these soon!
