Well, I went and picked up an 89 62 for my dad (They have a place in Moab and he wanted a project rig). The solenoids that engage 4wd are broken and the previous owner bypassed them. I have a replacement solenoid set but have no idea where which vacuum line goes.

If anyone has a photo, could take a photo or has a diagram of how to route the lines it would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Dan

if no one gets you one by tomorrow evening i can snap one.. Camera not here right now! There is info in the 3fe list on "generic" replacements as well. The 3fe list used to be on Yahoo now at http://www.birfield.com.

I think there are 4 total. 2 come across the firewall from the manifold, I think they go through a little blue filter and into the side of the box. The other 2 come from the hard lines directly below the box heading towards the case

You can run 1 line and split it off to both solonoids. You should reuse the blue check valve between the manifold vacuum and the solonoids. From there you run 1 hose per solonoid from them to the vacuum shift valve on the t-case. Start the truck and push the switch. If it works backwards, just reverse the lines at the t-case.

The 3FE list is still a Yahoo group (http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/3FE), but the archive is at Birfield.

for cheap solenoid replacements...

'86 camry. electrical plug matches up perfectly and they're even mounted the same in the camry. can pull from other camrys but you'll have to splice in to match their plugs. I pulled about 12 of these and a hoard of dash switches that match up for about $10 at one of the local pullits.

I've heard some 4runner solenoids are perfect fits for the electrical plug but haven't looked hard enough to check through the years.

Sure beats $350 that Toyota wants :shaking:

also the mac valve solution mentioned above

Thanks for all the help guys.

This is my dads new project rig so he wants all factory parts for the time being. I got the new solenoids for $288 from Cruiserparts.net and am about to dive into rebuilding the knuckles, replacing the tie-rod ends and fixing the drivers seat.

Next up is paint, Rhino on the bottom, OME suspension and some 33X9.50 or 10.50 all terrains (My pops is sixty and would never tolerate a loud tire). Its no monster but it will be more than capable for camping and fishing trips.

Its only 4 lines so I will figure it out, when I do I am taking a photo for referance.
