: Should I bob my 45?
FJ45Mike 01-20-2002, 06:21 AM Things are going really fast on the 45 project now. It will have a flat bed either way. I was all set to cut the rear frame just behing the spring hangers and got cold feet. It would still give me a 5 foot bed. I think that I know what I will do but..... I need someone to hold me
wngrog 01-20-2002, 07:23 AM Sawzall solves all!
Live Wire 01-20-2002, 08:42 AM Don't know about the holding you part, but I will hand you the liquid wrench:D :D Cut that thing & please post some pics for us to see.
peterfj40 01-20-2002, 10:35 AM i hate to see a perfectly good 45 get cut and personally would never be able to do it...if you do go flatbed and bob it, that'd be awesome..what are you going to do w/ the original bed if you go flat bed?...
FJ45Mike 01-20-2002, 10:45 AM I could never find a tail gate so I sold the bed. My only options now are flat bed or the Canadian aluminum bed. By the time it got here and I installed it I would be looking at $2500. Flat bed = $500 or less. I could also wheel it with a flat bed. It is far from stock so original value is not really an issue. If I do cut the frame I will save the part so it can be put back on. I am only talking about the last 16 inches or so. You can look under yours and you will see what I am looking at.
Keep the opinions comeing. Any one want to help me make the flat bed.
peterfj40 01-20-2002, 11:10 AM yeah go flatbed..that would be soo cool...now youve got me thinking of making a detachable flatbed that i can take on and off, for when i go wheeling moderatly and dont want to risk denting or scraping the bed...plus flatbeds just look so sick!
Taylor 01-20-2002, 12:55 PM Mike
Sounds like you are sill working on the bed. If you bob the frame you will still have the very long wheel base . I don't think I would cut the frame. Your truck is to nice. Why don't you look for a short wheel base 45 or 40 just to use as a beater for wheeling? I pick up a basket case 45 short for a $100 yesterday. Frame looks OK. Body and bed are shot but might be able to take a 40 and the top and back from the 45 and make a flat bed 45 again. Here is some thing that might work for your bed. Try and find a Toyota Scout bed I have one that I think I will use on my Trail 45 Good luck Keep in touch

Jason M 01-20-2002, 02:31 PM Mike cut the dam thing.
The sawzall will give you plenty of support ;-)
the questions is are you building a wheeler or are you building a show truck. It is not really all that hard to reclaim lost sections of frame. so if you really want to use the beast just lob the end off. Besides, It will look so cool....:D
I wish I was up there to give you a hand. I STILL want to see that thing!!!
FJ45Mike 01-20-2002, 05:18 PM I need to get off of my ass and pay the $20 so I can post the pictures!
rugburn 01-20-2002, 05:38 PM look at mudrak's 45.
That would give you a few ideas.

BJ On Roids 01-20-2002, 06:56 PM can you say:
HELL YEAH
every good tue, needs a bobbing!!
seriously, it'll be that "something different" yet more different
bob it, you can always add when you sell
if ya sell!!
hey roids - i dont know what these guys problem is with bobbing such a common vehicle hey :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
BJ On Roids 01-20-2002, 09:34 PM yah, they are rare over there, i heard they stopped bringing them in, sometime in the 1960's or something, whereas we got them here until 1984
my cousin (housemate) has a HJ47, turbo, 5 speed, 4 wheel discs, full fibreglass body, 35 muds, twin ARBs, and i cut over a metre off the back of that FAWKER, its also a modified extra cab, with tipping tray, and PTO winch, on board air, its pretty SIK!!! we broke out the 9 inch over a serious weekend, and hacked up most of the back!!
but no joke, i see 2 or 3, 45s a day here!!!
and to get a chassis, EASY, so if old mate bobs his, and then wants to restore to original, just hoi us, we'll send a good chassis over, couldnt be that hard, or just get a troopie chassis and bung a tray on it!!! (craigs started life as an army troop carrier, soft top)
mickbj42 01-21-2002, 01:24 AM Yeah I see at 6 or more a day, almost always flatbeds.
They have problems over there. The majority of utes over here are flatbeds, any make, nissan, landcruiser, hilux etc.
It must be a big deal to have a flatbed ute!!!
Cruiserhaven 01-21-2002, 08:31 AM Goddammn you Aussies!! Would you stop talking about all your 45's, 7x's, diesels, etc... already :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

orangefj45 01-21-2002, 04:55 PM hey mike! don't cut the frame. the rig is too clean and too rare to do that. i'm not trying to sound like a wuss here but how much wheelin' are ya gonna do with it that would warrant chopping off the rear of the frame. flatbed it and call it good!!!!
PS: still got that cabinet? pm me if you want to work out some kind of deal on it. thanks, georg.;)

wngrog 01-26-2002, 06:28 AM Yeah, in OZ..Cruiser guys are like the Jeep guys here and the Jeep guys are like the Cruiser guys.
In Oz the jeep guy is the outcast but the Cruiser driver is the "commoner"
Smarter, yes, but commoner all the same.
(jealousy talk);)
