I'm doing a full body restore with a Gozzard tub and will I'm working on the axles now I've decided to go to the dark side early
My question is everything I've read deals with doing the SOA with the full weight of the cruiser on the springs to set everything up can you set the pinion angle with the full weight on them or not?
I'll be using the original springs and the wieght of the tub is close to the original tub.
If anyone can help steer me in the right direction that would be great :D
Thanks

I did the same thing, I just tacked everything on until I had the whole weight to set the angles. I tried to get my neighbor kids to all stand on the frame to simulate the weight of the engine, but they didn't weigh enough. I ended up having to cut the front spring hangers off and redo them.

To really get the best setup, you should have the cruiser fully assembled for the pinion setting. I can tell you from first hand experience even the semi assembled body doesnt reflect the true driving weight of the cruiser, so build it once when its all together.

I still think its a good time to do a shackle reversal if you want to do that. Atleast this way, after everything is welded on you can prep the frame and spray it nicely.

Burl,
Call Lance Williams at Iron Pig Off Road in Fredericksburg. He's done a bunch of SOA's and worked with fiberglass as well - he'll be able to steer you in the right direction. Also, FWIW, i would not do the shackle reversal with a spring over - too tall. Check lance's site (still under construction but stuff is popping up there daily) for his phone and email. url is www.ironpigoffroad.com. He's got 8000sqft down there and a brand spanking new lift. Also, while you've got him, ask him about bumpers. I was just down there sunday stipping my buddies 40 (lance did all the sheet metal work on his 40 - it's bling, but don't tell him I said bling) to ready it for Line-X.
Hope things are well.

taller than a non-shackle reveral spring over? I am just referring to moving the spring hanger to the front- not the BTB/ MAF rock catcher shackle reversal.

I didn't gain any extra lift with my SR. Maybe your thinking of putting the shackle under the frame. If you put it through the fram you will be fine.

Thanks for the info guys :) sorry for the late reply just got back from vacation with the kids
Rob I'll have to give Lance a call I talked with him some at GSMTR but not about the SOA.
As far as my SR I moved the stock hanger to the back on the bottom of the frame
I guess the best way is to wait for the full weight I was just trying to do it while everything was easy to get and move around and then paint :D

Sounds good - Lance will be able to point you in the right direction. He's a pro, and a straight shooter.
Good luck.
