I am looking to buy an 85 CJ from a friend. Mods include a '79 AMC 304 and a 5-spd transmission, not sure from where. It seems to be in decent shape but it is not running due to some electrical issues. If I buy it I was thinking of just replacing the entire electrical system. Anyone have experience with this? How difficult is it for an electical novice? The only kit I have seen is from "Painless Wiring"; is this kit any good?
thanks,
j

I only have experiance with painless, but they're stuff was a piece o' cake to use. When it comes to wiring harnesses, don't go the cheapest way...unless ya like chasing electrons:p

Painless wiring kits are very prices, I would sugest going to the bone yard and see if you can find a good used harness from a wreck.

I am in the process of rewiring my 74 Cj-5 right now with a painless kit. it is very simple but the only hard part is rewiring the dash and all the crap on it. I paid $352.00 at 4 wheel Wholesalers. The kit it self replaces everything on the vehicle except for the wiring for fuel injection if you have it.
If you're not an idiot and have a bit of luck you can get just about the entire Painless harness installed and all gremlins exorcised in a weekend.

I prefer th centech kit. All the wirs are labeled every few inches. The customer service this kicks but and it is a very complete kit.
