I see that drivetrain direct makes front axle tube end seals. Does anyone know if they are available for D60 fronts? I have heard that someone found a off the shelf seal which can be installed into the end of a 60 to use as a tube seal, anybody have any information on this?
TIA

I cannot believe that nobody on Pirate has done this before. I have heard of someone who did this, but I cannot find the magazine where it was stated.
Anyone?

Which end of the tube are you talking about ? ...There is a standard oil seal at the inside (pig) end of a front tube, but nothing is needed at the outside (knuckle) end..

I saw an article or a post about that, you want to seal the knuckle end to the axle. I can't remember where I saw it though, if I find it all let you know.

Yeah, I know the front axle has inner seals, but I am looking to place outer axle seals for two reasons
1. Keep dirt and shit out of tube so that WHEN I brake axle shafts and need to replace them I don't push dirt into the diff.
2. Keep oil in WHEN the inner axle seals fail.
If any of you that have read anything in articles could refer them to me I would appreciate it.

There's nowhere on the shaft for the seal to seat. You'd have to get custom axles made, since you couldn't just turn it down on a lathe since the axle is bigger where the normal seal is. Also, I think you'd have trouble with the seal since the axle can move around some in the tube. Plus the seal would burn up since it isn't lubricated.

I was gonna mention that, any play in the joint will trash the seal, also inner seals dont go bad often and I've never noticed any ill affects from stuffing all that crap into my axles over the years. If it were me I'd spend the time doing something else, shave the pigs or some other worthy modification... but it is your time, so you decide.

fill the tube with expanding foam

I have seen a front that had a dust seal out there before. I forget what it was, maybe early 30 Cj or bronco. It would be a good idea. And it doesn't matter if it seals perfectly, just to keep the worst of it out. The expanding foam is something to look at.

Does anyone run the outer axle tube seals by DriveTrain direct?
www.drivetraindirect.com
They look like there is an inner and outer seal as part of this unit with a jerk to fill the space with greese.
Lets see if someone can dig up the article which states how to do this on a 60 front.
