setting up my 14bolt c&c with 63" wms-wms to run disc brakes. using a ford high pinion front d60 with stock brake setup. ive heard that some 15" wheels will fit both of those axles if i do some grinding. however, usually i read about people using less than 3 or 4 inches of backspacing on their wheels. so my questions are:

1. can i run 15" wheels with somewhere around 5 inches of backspacing on those axle setups?
2. will 16" or 16.5" wheels on the same setup be a problem at all, even if i dont grind the calipers?

I'm almost sure you will not be able to grind enough off to run 5" backspacing. I have 3.5" backspacing and that appears to be close to the limit for grinding on the caliper. 16" and 16.5" wheels should clear fine, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Did you ever notice what size wheels are on the trucks that axles like yours come from??

Yea 3.5 is as deep as you can go without getting the brake downsize kits for like 550!

I am running 2" of backspace on mine. Five inches? That would set the rim clear in.

why yes, i did notice. but do those trucks that run those axles typically have 5" backspacing? not that i know of. so, is a 16" wheel with 5" backspacing going to fit over my brakes?

run 3" Back Spacing & you'll have to grind a little but not much

Now the real question comes out. You didn't ask if they woud fit with 5" of backspacing the first time did you? You asked if a 16" or 16.5" wheel would fit on the axle setup you're looking at.

I don't know the answer to the question for sure. My guess is yes they will. A Hummer wheel (16.5") has much more than 5" and fits. I went 17" instead of worrying about it.
