Alright, so I've got myself a 91 explorer sport, and over the last summer I dropped in a 302. I originally planned fuel injection, as I got a complete 302 HO 5.0 motor from a totaled mustang. Well school approached quickly, and that is where alot of my work stopped. Even with the manuals, the wiring is a fawkin bitch. Now, plans are to continue work on the truck in summer, and recently I've been tossin around ideas of going carburated. Sure FI would be nice, but the 4x4 mags have had some good tests on carbs and this stirred my thoughts... So, does anyone know, if it's possible to take my 90 5.0 motor, and get a new intake and carb and other little goodies... Or is there somethin I'm completely over looking? Also, I'm not totally knowledgable on carbs and what not, so I've brought my questions to y'all.
Thanks!
Pete
carbs are ok for speed and daraggin and stuff. in my opinion they suck on a daily and on a wheeler that sees inclines. i have had no luck with carberators. heres the most recent story. i bought my 86 ford from my bro cause he just didnt need it. he put a brand new holley on it and never tuned it. so i got the truck and tried to tune the carb and no luck. i then brought it to a speed shop and then another to have the carb tuned thinking it was me. well they madfe itr worse. so i said screw the holley ill try edelbroch. well same deal with the edelbroch, a little better but not good enuff. both carbs just sucked ass in the winter trying to get the chocke right and getting it tuned right. well i finally had enuff and put a holley pro jection kit on it and i havnt looked back since. i will stick with fi you can keep the crappy carbs

yes there are things you are over looking but minor things...first off you need an intake, carb, distributer gear, distributer, ign coil, air cleaner, and fuel pump....all can be had cheaply.
where in IL are you located i am near chicago and could offer assistance for the fuel inj. swap as well.

Im going through the same thing right now I have a 94 ranger body on a tube chassis. one cool thing is that i set the engine so far back that the #2 cyl. is under the winshild and with the fuel injection the intake hight is low enough that i didn't have to cut the cowl apart (it is prety tight though) my engine came out of a 87 totaled mustang. there is alot of extra wires but if you know a little about wiring with a little time you can clean it up real nice. there are some books out that have the whole wiring harness in them so you can go through it andfigure out what you dont need there is alot that you dont need. but if you are putting it into another ford you can just plug alot of the interior part of the harnes into the harness you already have for the truck. plus I think or at least on mine, on the back of the original guages you can i think clip a wire behind the tack and your guages will work for the v8. check around for a couple of diferant wiring diagrams some are alot better than others (fords diagrams suck) but it is good to have them to help understand other diagrams. I hope to be doing the clan up of the harness within a couple of weeks so you can pm me on some of the wiring questions when you get into it.

carbs aren't that bad. Injection is obviously better, however at a price. All i have to say is carbs worked for how many years? And now everyone wants to just trash em like its some weird invention that has never worked. Well to me they are simple things that do a simple job, just because someone can't tune it right doesn't mean its junk. Holley's are very simple, and edelbrocks are even easier. Holley has power valves, which can lead to issues, but they have kits to fix this nowadays. To each his own, if you got the cash get FI it kicksass, if you're cheap like me stick with carbs...they work fine.

Well, I've got the EVTMs for both vehicles... and I also have the harwood conversion manual... and I got a diagram from someone who did it into a BII just as another referance... Of course, I've still got time to figure this $hit out
