Independent4x 07-13-2004, 08:58 AM well it should work..............maybe the # is incorrect????
really.....you can't just visually ID them by now
trooper4life 07-13-2004, 10:01 AM Yeah I know it is a 44. however I haven't got to ordering any parts for her yet. I thought I had better know what exact axle I have to order the part for. lol Does it even matter?
Thanks for the pump up and maybe you cou ld help on the rest of the story.
PS: I have checked the #'s sevearl times and it is the same right #. I just can't seem to get any info on it. You think that means I have a scout?
Thanks again,
Daniel

RodeoRob 07-15-2004, 09:48 AM if you're not going to be able to identify it via BOM, give us some specs. Exact wms to wms? small or large bearing spindle? flat top knuckles? knowing some details, i bet we can come pretty close to what it came out of.

trooper4life 07-15-2004, 10:45 AM Otay guys here are some pictures I took yesterday afternoon.
http://pics.montypics.com/trooper4life/2004-07-15/1089909099_axle_0716.jpg http://pics.montypics.com/trooper4life/2004-07-15/1089909182_axle_0717.jpg http://pics.montypics.com/trooper4life/2004-07-15/1089909267_axle_0718.jpg http://pics.montypics.com/trooper4life/2004-07-15/1089909342_axle_0719.jpg
And here is a picture of my vortech that will be going into this trooper.http://pics.montypics.com/trooper4life/2004-07-15/1089909416_axle_0720.jpg
I will get the wms tonight. No flat tops. Not sure about the bearing spindle? What is that? How do I tell if it is the large or small one.
Thanks guys,
Daniel
Independent4x 07-15-2004, 11:35 AM ok axle is upside down in pics................but judging from the spring unger casting and the fin on the side of the diff..i say it is a 77-79 wagoneer front D44
i'm guessing there is a hole in the casting that the larger u-bolt on the pass side goes through.
this is a big bearing spindle front axle.
put on flat tops, gear, lock, and run it.
IsuzuCrawler 07-16-2004, 10:00 AM Daniel, it looks like you've been on the ball, you're going to have your truck going before i finish mine :flipoff2: sorry i didn't get up with you the other weekend, all we did was sit around with cold ones.....
the progress looks good so far, can't wait to check it out.
psychobilly 07-18-2004, 02:17 AM put on flat tops, gear, lock, and run it
Would the 77-79 not have the factory flat top knuckles?
trooper4life 07-18-2004, 12:45 PM There is a hole in the casting for the u bolt. This axle does not have flat tops. Why wouldn't the bom # work? The # on this axle is in great shape. Easy to see.
I will get the wms today and post them.
Thanks,
Daniel
Independent4x 07-18-2004, 01:42 PM Would the 77-79 not have the factory flat top knuckles?
no they would not....74-76 have flat tops, but also have small bearing spindles and a smaller center section casting.........can'y have the best of both unles "you" combine it
trooper4life 07-18-2004, 05:18 PM The wms is 54 inch center to center.
So when I order my rebuild kit for this axle what should I ask for?
Thanks,
Daniel
psychobilly 07-18-2004, 08:38 PM My 77 had the flat tops...musta been swapped out at one time or another. My bad
Independent4x 07-19-2004, 09:54 AM The wms is 54 inch center to center.
So when I order my rebuild kit for this axle what should I ask for?
Thanks,
Daniel
where are you getting this measurement?......................with rotors on?
sounds way too narrow
trooper4life 07-19-2004, 10:02 AM No I just measured it the way it is in the picture above. I turned each knuckle around till they were straight and then measured outside to outside. Where the bolts are sticking out of the knuckles.
Later,
Daniel
Independent4x 07-19-2004, 04:36 PM ahhhhh....that's what i thought................that is def NOT the wheel mounting surface.
that axle should be like 62-63" ish total...wms-wms
IsuzuCrawler 07-20-2004, 04:12 PM daniel, i'd use the wider one of the two cause i wasn't one of those about 3-4'' wider? these boxy troopers could use all the stability they can get. the axle should be a wide track grand cherokee D44 77-79 if you need that to get parts, although the width shouldn't matter for most parts unless you are buying shafts.
