From what I understand 84-85 Toy PUP's had the better guseting on the front axle and the flanges are physically larger 83 and down have smaller pinoin flange's and Driveshafts 83 and older different bolt pattern on flange and shorter are there any other differences that should be known for someone going into the swap
rearends from ifs trucks are 58" wide and more gusseted than the earlier rears, which are 55" wide....

Yeah, get the larger flanges (uses 14mm wrench on the bolts) if possible - this is Very close to the Samurai large pattern:cool:
Get the double-cardian driveshaft when you buy the axles, too. Cut it down to use in the rear. Oh yeah - don't forget 6 lug wheels :D

Well unfortunately the axles ended up being from an 83 but I do already have the large flange diifs in the garage so I guess I'll only have to regusset the front axle oh well beggers cant be choosers and they were free:smokin: :D

The gussetting thing isn't THAT big a deal, unless you're doing Ivan Stuart desert driving. The axles are plenty strong - they are going under a Samruai, after all! :smokin:

FRONT AXLES:
79-85 Toyota 8" Front Axles are all identical, except for:
1. All Toyota axles have a gusset under the long side of the axle. The 84-85 model axle's gusset is a couple inches longer, extending all of the way to the spring perch. All Pro sells an axle gusset that you can weld onto you axle, or simply use as a pattern for making your own.
2. 79-83 Axles have a smaller flange than 84-85 ones. However, the 'centering ring' in the middle, which keeps the shaft centred while you bolt it down, is the same on every Toyota axle I've ever seen. This means that while the flanges may overlap a little at the outside edge, and the holes will not line up, a small flanged diff can be made to fit a larger flange driveshaft, or vice versa. You simply have to rotate the flange 45* and drill a new set of holes. Jay Kopycinski (ROKTOY on POR) explains how he did this for his Toy on this page.
Anyone who wants to know a little more about Toy stuff should read the tech information on Jayspage and Erik's page. They're both excellent sites written by guys who know WTF they're talking about.

There was a thread in the Toy section a while back, talking about bending the front axle. It appears that most Toy housings eventually bend either back or up just outside of the long (drivers) side spring perch. Although I believe there was one picture of one failing on the short side right by the diff.
Under a Sammy, however, I agree with 'Tim. It's not something I'd be very worried about.
But I'm planning on gusseting the long side of the 82 axle I'm building right now. I'll probably go with just a single piece of 1/2" plate wended vertically between the diff and the long sie perch, since I have a friend with a machine that can go though 1/2" plate with the push of a button.

Thanx Yota_san You just reinforced what I thought to already be true I'll check out those links and probably ad the link to our tech pages at 4play4wheelers (http://www.4play4wheelers.com) :D

I finally got around to findinf the thread I mentioned. It primarily deals with gusseting the rear axle, but here's a pic I found of a bent front axle. It's an 82, just like the one I've got, and it bent just outside of the factory gusset:
