: Is this a problem with ARBs???

My FJ 40 sits most of the time unless I'm going wheeling. I have heard that if ARBs sit for exteneded periods the rubber gaskets will dry out and cause air leaks inside the 3rd, is this true?

I've had them for about 9 years and my my Jeep sometimes sits for a couple months in the winter. Never had that problem.

My cruza has sat for months and never moved and never had one leak in my ARB, about 5 years now.

I do change the gear oil alot. IMHO, dirty oil is most damaging to the O-rings.

Last wheeled around the property just days before I started disassembling it, other than that only 3 trail rides in 2001 :(

Not enough, but best I could manage with a new baby in the house :D:D:D

I had a air leak in my D60 ARB after 1 year. I have changed the oil after every 5 trips or so. I wheel about 30+ trips last year alone. So..... Huhmmm... I guess its just not 1 guy.

What Air pressure do yu run it at......and do you use a seperate regulator? I run mine directly of a CO2 tank for the past 3 years with out a problem...usually a seal problem is someone running the air above 100 psi......105 is max....90 min for full lock........I have gauges set @ 99 psi....and have had no problems in 3 years
I ahve noticed teh guys who have problems usually run them over 100.

My Rear ARB lets a little gear lube past the seals each time I activate it. The lube then works its way up the air line and upon release, the oil sprays out the air release valve into the engine bay -- messy at times. I've had new seals put into the ARB, but the problem still persists. I've been told that this problem is common with axles that use third members.

As opposed to the axles without 3rds?:D Has anyone had someone competent do theirs here in SoCal? Otherwise I will make the looooong trek up north to get Gearman to do them for me.

Welcome newbie:flipoff2:
I have never had the problem you are discribing. Had a few guys in my club lose the seals & blow oil up through the line. They had the seals replaced & no more probs. As for the problem being common with axles that use 3rd members, WTF? Shouldn't make a difference. Brad.

Ken, M.I.T. in El Cajon, Ca. 619-579-7727. Owners name is
Jeff Sugg. He's done a lot of work on mine and I'm happy with
it. He stands behind all his work.

A few people in my club including myself have gone to Pro-Gear in SanDiego.
Sorry Gary, but I have heard nothing but bad from the Mechanics In Training you recommend. Brad.

Geez Brad are you gonna stop by later and kick gary's dog too.:D I need someone that can do ARBs without having to worry about them. I know Gearman can do it I just don't know if I can make the trip. My alternative is 4.88s and a rear Detroit for now and do the ARBs later.
