I blew out my old 700r4 last night plowing snow and want to put in a TH 350 or 400. I am trying to do this as cheap as possible so I need to know what is the cheapest/easiest way to get one of these trannys in. Can a TH350 be swapped directly for the 700 r4?
BTW, I have an '86 Blazer with a sb305 and a 208 transfer case.

Thanks for all info.

Cheapest? I would most likely think that getting another 700R would be the same as a TH350/400 and the adapters

A th350 will work fine ,400's are a little longer and has a 6 bolt pattern where you mount the transfercase. But the 400 is the way to go, there spline count is different as well. 350 has the same as 700r4. Hope i could help!GOOD LUCK!!!

OK, here is what I decided. A buddy has a 350 core that I can get rebuilt with a towing package and converter for $350, and that is setup for the 208, so I figure that will be the best way out. The driveshafts will be close so I will have to see when it is all done.
Thanks for everyones help.

You will find that the TH350 is going to be a few inches shorter, that is why an adapter is needed. It is actually a spacer that is 3-4 inches long. You will also need to move the crossmemeber back a couple of inches. It is all relatively simple, just make sure your friends core is a 4X4 tranny.

Thanks, for the info. I knew about the spacer, but forgot about the crossmember--sounds pretty easy though. Atleast this way I have a nicely built tranny that will hold up.
