: No Gate on CON - It's Official...
500 HORS 01-20-2002, 09:14 PM May have been posted earlier, but this is a BIG step in the right direction. Hope we get a good turnout in the future when water bars need rebuilding...

To All: the Rubicon Trail fixes hit their final high note as you'll see
below. The big fine (and cease and desist order) that was slapped on
Placer county has been officially rescinded. COOL. This note is from our
project boss, Rebecca Bond. Great news. The gate was part of this. The
gate is no longer an option. GREAT.
We will need to keep up our efforts to keep this crown jewel open
forever. We need to do annual maintenance; put up some signs; maybe add a
kiosk; and a few things like that. Every few years we need to hit the
water bars for a weekend and just sorta keep em working at their optimum
level. It'll all be coordinated and supported thru Friends of the Rubicon
and you (our sponsors and donors and partners).
Thanks, Del

Hello FOTR,
The Lahontan Cease and Desist Order was rescinded on January 9, 2002. Kara
Russell from Lahontan, Rebecca Bond (me) from Placer County, and Dick Young
from the Lake Tahoe Hi-Lo's/FOTR spoke at the public hearing.
This is a great way to start the new year!
Thanks for your continued support,
Rebecca

SMART ASS 01-21-2002, 10:40 AM Just thought i would put in my 0.2 CENTS
Why not get a Box/Shack and have it open durring the weekends durring the summer, to charge 7$ to use the trail, I would have no problem to pay 7$ for the use of the con, the 7$ would give you a 4 day permit. And the 7$ would go to maintainance, pay the person(s) to man the pay box (toll booth).
Weekends are considerd to be from Noon Friday to Midnight Sunday. Summer would be considered June 1st to September 15th.
Wild guess of 60 trucks average a weekend (x) 7$ a truck = 420$ a weekend (x) 4 weekends in a month = $1680 a month (x) 3.5 months = $5880 Anually
Just an idea...
And sure, im still down with volunteering my time to help with the trail repairs...Just thought it would create some good income and also would look good as progress to maintain the trail in the eyes of those whom wish to close the trail.
Also people tend to be more respectfun, careful and more self aware of what they are doing when they have paid for the use of an object, VS. recieving its uses free.
now go have a  or

Why not?
Because it is public land. That means that you and I as citizens have free access to the land for our enjoyment. Don't you already pay enough taxes? We could also make all roads into toll roads, and have taxes on breathing air. Maybe $50 per person per year for the right to breathe air. If you have bad breath, maybe $75. Also, how about a new tax on walking? or farting?
Am I the only one tired of taxes?
Sloan 01-21-2002, 12:28 PM Most of the close places here in SoCal have a fee to wheel for the day or weekend. I have no problem paying usage fees because it helps maintain my wheeling spots. Usage fees and taxes aren't the same. What I would like to see is more BRC, CORVA, etc. stickers on rigs which means you care about our sport and are at least making contributions to have someone else fight to keep our lands open. Anyone that thinks that keeping these lands open from now on isn't going to be a scrap has their head in the sand. Congrats guys on keeping the trail open, hopefully I'll actually get up there this summer to lend a hand and enjoy it.:D Quit bitching and start a revolution.
Gordon 01-21-2002, 01:11 PM You are supposed to pay for a camp fire permit anyway if you want to have a fire.
inphobic 01-21-2002, 01:48 PM Maybe just a plaque so you could send donations to help with the efforts of keeping it open. There are alot of people who work thier ass off in order let us enjoy the trails wether it is our right or not. I have not participated in many of these organizations other than my membership. Just want to say thanks to everybody out there that works so hard so we can play!
I would hate to see them charge to use the trail. That would just pay to have some green weenie a job and complain about what the wheelers are doing. Keep it clean and keep it free..
Just my $.02..

Dychen 01-22-2002, 01:26 AM its bad enough the treehuggers are so anal about it, to think to pay for it is down right horrible. its an unmaintained county road, that in its own right i think is wrong. if i wanted to deal with cops and pay to use the roads i'd go to the bay area :flipoff2::flipoff2: to me wheeling is about getting away from society. i've personally never been to the con, but from what i've been told beer is the currency used for barter. thats beautiful, the whole concept thrills me, and i dont even drink. i firmly believe in keeping the trail clean, always bring out more then your brought in and always bring your brew in a can, and from what i have gathered, most other people that use the trail do to. this is what makes the wheeling community so great. the less restrictions the better.
locrwln 01-22-2002, 07:50 AM For the people on this side of the mountains that is great news. Very glad to hear it. Unfortunately, I don't think that the people who read and participate on this board are the ones who leave their trash and destroy the trail. There are an awful lot of people who do leave their trash and everything else on the trail. We always (my group) end up hauling a lot more trash out than we take in (mostly beer cans/bottles). Let's hope that the people who are willing to carry out more than they haul in outnumber the people who don't.

I will say that again it was a great team effort we had people from all over up there for the work weekend from So-Cal to Nor-Cal and from Nevada and I beleive there was a Hummer that came out from back east some where also. there where even homeowners from the nearby subdivision there working too.
well over hear at tellico you have to pay $5 bucks a day to use the trails. that $5 bucks keeps the trails open. but there is no guy standing there all the time, its based on a trust system. and the system works cause you dont hear any one wanting to close it down.
SMART ASS 01-22-2002, 11:39 PM I like the donation idea, i know that i would donate..
To comment on the dude who said he was already paying taxes, well dude, how much of your taxes do you actually think go to the trail? anyway, i think that a usage fee would bee cool with me, if you dont think so, well thats why we are in the USA :usa:
And to you others, i mentioned nothing about cops or tree huggers, you brought that up awn ur own.
