: Commando Q's.
Daren Rabago 01-20-2002, 09:54 PM Ok, here's the deal. I've got my '80 CJ-5 for sale, and there's a kid who wants to trade a '72 Commando for it. To me, it's an early Bronco with leaf springs, but it's kind of neat. The CJ has a bunch of knick knack little crap that needs to be done, and some love marks from various trees, leaks as much oil as the Valdez, and just needs lots of help. (I have a Samurai that has been getting all the $attention$) However, if I own a 4x4, I AM going to wheel it, although I'm really looking for a daily driver. I think it would be a cool driver, and light wheeler, if I can find anybody that does a mild spring lift for it, or if I should just do spoa. Do CJ springs fit these at all, or is this the type of rig that makes better sense to restore to stock, and just drive it. Are they worth any money as a stock rig? Any opinions, or insights onto info? ( the off-road.com Jeepster pages seem to deal more with restoring than wheeling, I already searched!)

Search...............I mean 104" :flipoff2:
45/70 01-21-2002, 02:30 PM You've really got to watch yourself on this board, there's an unusually high number of preditors lurking about.
For the real lowdown on Commandos, you must visit the American Jeepster Club site. They're on the offroad.com boards and have a bbs just for Jeepster/Commandos.
There are a couple of them that post on pirates, periodicaly, but you just didn't get luck enough to have one answer your inquiry before the dogs got to you...
Trade for the commando, there's no better daily driver that can wheel too.
YJ4LIFE 01-21-2002, 03:58 PM www.off-road.com has a good Jeepster Commando board. My dad and I have a '68. The cool thing about the ugly ;) AMC made '72 is that a CJ7 or YJ front clip is a direct bolt on. The earlier Kaiser made ones are a tad different and you'd have to use and older CJ5 clip to get the CJ look.
James K 01-21-2002, 07:03 PM The cj springs would work in conjuction with the jeepsters main leafs. The wheel base on a 66-71 is 101" and on the 72-73 is 104". Give the jeepster page a chance and do a search on that page there is some good info. Do the trade. I sold my 73 cj5 to build my jeepster. Its great lots of room and they are different. The cj or yj front clip fit the 72-73 with very little trouble if you don't like the front end. There are pictures of mine on here, just do a search on my name.:D
Daren Rabago 01-21-2002, 09:50 PM Cool, I appreciate the info. The guy with the Commando must really want a CJ, (it's already lifted, locked, and on Swampers) because he's even offering to do the spring-over, minus tires and shocks if I trade. He says the trails he wants to run are too tight for it. I don't know what he's talking about, because I've taken XJ's on the same trails. I think I might trade for comfy driver with heat, and to be different.
Oh yeah, I did more extensive searches of off-road.com, and found a few good threads. And for the predators, I did search, but looking at pictures of bitchin' Commando's didn't answer any questions. I already know that anything can be built to wheel, just whether it's worth it or not. :D
if you dont get it, mind giving out info on it?
ive wanted a commando ever since riding in a friends in highschool...
