: IFS Question
ChillyWater96 07-05-2004, 10:26 PM I am not very educated on IFS (it's so much more complicated than a live axle) and I was told i could adjust the ride height by tightening or loosening a certain suspension part on the front of my 96 Tahoe....is this true?
Uglychevy383 07-05-2004, 11:26 PM You are referring to the torsion bars, and yes that works. It's a hack teenager way of gaining 1-2 inches, and totally trashing your alignment, dooooon't do it. I did that when I was 19 with a brand new S-10 Tahoe and needed new tires again in 3 months, I dont care what asshat anywhere tells you, dont do it, buy a lift, hell, if 1-2" is all you disire get bigger tires! Hope that helped :)

blacksheep10 07-06-2004, 07:32 AM Hi again, from behind my computer.
crank the torsions on that up about 1.5 inch and have it aligned. It does work, but not for very much lift. Some try to get 3" by cranking the bolts all the way as far as they will go, bad idea. This is where the tire wear comes into play. by bumping them up a little, nothing is hurt at all. When peole get greedy, that the where rough rides and problems come in
bansheeman1 07-06-2004, 09:05 AM WOW is this the chevy nooby section
Uglychevy383 07-06-2004, 09:11 AM For 1.5" ? whats the point, that isnt enough to be noticable for anything, even by the owners eyes it wont be seeable, why encourage him to do a hack job when there is nothing in the world that can gained by 1.5" inches. use that alignment money and go buy a beater yota.
ChillyWater96 07-06-2004, 10:18 AM Thanks a lot for you guys help on that, I think i'll just wait until i get a lift
blacksheep10 07-06-2004, 10:41 AM WOW is this the chevy nooby section

Talk TECH, not SHIT!
But seriously, dude....take your not-knowing-what-the-fawk-a-torsion-bar-is question to the Newb section.... Unless you've got a question about SAS, or something worth mentioning, leave it outta this forum....
Next I bet you'll ask us what to do about the dirt build up in your door panels.... :shaking:
ChillyWater96 07-06-2004, 02:59 PM Hey dipshit aren't you the one that said "talk tech not shit"? That's exactly what you're doing.....smart guy :flipoff2:
big94GMC 07-06-2004, 03:57 PM But don't you feel better now that you've turned this thread into a total 'post padding' session? Don't be a dick, dude....
SlamChops 07-06-2004, 05:19 PM Goddamn, i guess this is newb tech now. WOOT.
I've got mine on my Z71 turned up .75" maybe, just enough to level it out. if you crank em much more you'll probably need an alignment and new tie-rod ends, ball joints, etc. not too far off...
oh yeah, Chris, you're still a newb too. :flipoff2:
American 07-06-2004, 05:27 PM so do newbie's offend you or something

Nope, every one of us was brand new at one time. there are people here that have been around for a couple of years that are dumbasses. Some brand new guys are some of the smartest in the sport. I have a problem with new guys that decide that their free membership entitiles them to pollute out serious 4x4 tech threads with complete stupid shit.
I read before I posted. I do my homework. I know what search is. know why? I am not your typical dumbass. I also don't cop an attitude when someone says something I don't like. If that is your style, hang out in chit chat and get your knocks there. As I put in another post, this is an extreme rock crawling/wheeling site. any shit about your dd stock ass tahoe you are going to put a lift on and never wheel (even if you do wheel it with an ifs lift, we don't care) can go in the Newb section. check it out, it could help you and save you from looking like an ass clown

Agreed. 1.5" can make a difference. Take for instance the diesels or BB's, cranking the 1.5" can help you actually get off the bumpstops in some cases.
On the alignment note. If you have a Firestone Service Center, see about getting their Lifetime align. I paid $99 for mine, when the frontend was going to be $79. Now I get mine aligned every other month, or everytime I rotate my tires and change my oil. Just drive it over wait 45 mins and your shit is aligned. Saves you money in the long run not just alignment $$$'s but also in tire wear. Do it!
blacksheep10 07-08-2004, 02:38 PM Woodywag, thanks for quoting me, as you can see, after the guy talked shit about me hiding behind a computer, I tried to post up tech for him again. He doesn't want help, he wants to argue. Chit chat is where they argue, try there. you will make lots o friends.
