I blew out my old 700r4 last night plowing snow and want to put in a TH 350 or 400. I am trying to do this as cheap as possible so I need to know what is the cheapest/easiest way to get one of these trannys in. Can a TH350 be swapped directly for the 700 r4?
BTW, I have an '86 Blazer with a sb305 and a 208 transfer case.

Thanks for all info.

Okay, here's the scoop. A TH350 that originally came in front of an NP203 will bolt right up & have the correct spline count for the 208. BUT, the output shaft will be too short. You need a different shaft for the TH350 & a complete rebuild is necessary to install the shaft. IF you decide to go this route, do NOT buy the shaft. I have one, new in the box, will sell to ya for $80 (they're $110 retail). I had planned to go this route (TH350/208) & even had all the parts lined up. Then, I got a good deal on a TH350 to Toy t-case adapter & did that instead. So, the shaft is in my basement waiting to go in someone else's project.

TH400 will not work. They were used in front of NP208's, but they have a different pattern & spline count. You'd need to also get a different 208 out of a truck that had a TH400 in order to make that work.

Why do things always have to be such a PITA???

TEX, thanks for the good info. I have a line on a 400/205 combo and figure it would be worth it to redo the driveshafts for the beefy combo. The funny thing is that I bought this truck intending to do nothing to it. Why can't things be easy?

Also the 700R4 is also just over an inch longer than the th350.
