you don't want to know... trust me..

Most data shows it at 3.91, but thats only for the 2.3/2.9/3.0 the 4.0 has a different gearset... lik a 3.5 or so..

they suck balls, I own one.

they suck balls in the sense of a not low enough first gear or are there other problems as well?

Its a pretty decent trans other than the suckass 1st gear. They hold up quite well unless you neglect to change the fluid.

My Ford sevice manual states 3.72:1 for the Mazda M5OD-R1. Some people say the 4.0L version has an even shallower 1st gear (3.40:1) although my manual does not mention that. I have not had one out of a vehicle to check it however.

im pretty sure they do have different ratios. when mine got rebuilt on my 4.0l, after they put it in, you could tell every ratio was different. it was like driving a completely different truck, had to relearn everything again. (i toasted most everything in the case due to the oil plugs..)

Explorer 5speeds came from the factory with 3.4:1 1st gear.
