I have an 84 Toyota with a 3” body lift running 235/75/15 BF Goodrich tires.

Guy said stock height is 22” at the door, and 26” max with lift.

Can you believe I was 26.5” in the front of the door and 27” in the back of the door.

I started to air down the tires, and the guy said I could not do that or it will through off the rollers on the dyno.

I tells him the tread on the new tires just gave me a .5” of lift, and now I am over…
Fine then just give me a rejection sticker…

He said he can not do that either, because he does not have that type of failure in the computer…

So I did not fail, but worse I was un-inspectable ?
Never new there was such a thing?

What the @$^%@$%!#$!#$@^ !

This is not a joke?

I had no idea it had gotten so bad. How does a new 4x4 superduty pass? They are way higher than a stock yota with a 3 inch body lift.

They are made that high. A toy is not. :mad3:

Shorter tires. Damn.......that sucks!

The issue we have is that the 80's 4x4 Toyota was a small truck.
Hell it was not much more then a 2WD with bigger tires, and a transfer case...

My truck all ready looks so small compared to a superduty.

I am going to mount some Subaru Justy tires (12" wheels) :D
The truck will rev like hell for the emmission though

But really I have some 225's, but they do not have that much tread. With my luck he would fail me for that.

I might just give up on having a DD that is also my trail rig.
Already sold my Motorcross bike in the summer because I had no where I could ride it.

This all sucks !!! :nuke:

Air down before you show up. Then don't tell the guy it's aired down; if he questions it when he puts it on the rollers, tell him it drove fine on the way there, and you expect him not to screw up your truck with his machine. Oh, and you might want to take it to a different station than last time if you're gonna try this.

just put on your 225's, then if you fail because of them, just pay your $1 for the sticker and go home. put on your 235's and go back, they cant fail you for something that allready passed, so they will only check the things that failed the last time, then pay your $10 or $15 or whatever for your pass sticker.

or just air down.

I too am in Mass and I have found that the inspection law varies at every station. The station I use gives me 29" to the bottom of the door on anything. I am in the south east part of the state though so that is a bit of a drive. Good luck.

"I started to air down the tires, and the guy said I could not do that or it will through off the rollers on the dyno."

He said when I came back he would check my tire pressure :o can you believe this...

Steve, have you thought about heading west to some podunk town? You might have better luck out there.

Also, how hard would it be to just remove the body lift for the time it takes to do the inspection?

Just a thought.....

What pressure are they supposed to be at, according to MV?

Go buy a half yard of GRAVEL on your way to the station.. I buy it by the yard for $10.

That should squat your suspension down a LOT - enough to gain back that 1/2" or inch you need..

Find a Ricer buddy with some low-profiles.. :D

RE: 26" @ the door

This inspection guy was just making crap up about what I could NOT do to make it pass. He said that letting air out was not legal. The statute says nothing about this

Well I measured the truck at home last night, and check this out:

empty ~ passenger door ~ closed = F 26.5" / R 27.5".
passenger ~ passenger door ~ closed = F 26" / R 27".
bed loaded with wheels ~ passenger door ~ closed = F 26" / R 26".

Opening the door seemed to take some height off the door as well.
My drivers side sages .25” more then the passenger side. He measured the passenger side.

Are you beginning so see how stupid this is?
I could see if I was 2” or 3” over… but dame .5”

They even come stock higher towards the rear of the door.
And no were does the statue state the highest point of the bottom of the door?
So is the 22” in the front or the rear of the door…

Though I would have loved to have a pissing match with the inspection station, I decide to do it the old fashion way...
I paid a friend $20 that has a friend that "does" stickers.
I will have the truck by noon all nice and “legal”.

PS I hope that I have a spare and a passenger with me if I get stopped…

just toss in a couple of old axle shafts, drive shafts, 2 or 3 tire chains, a highlift, a bag of tools, a jug of water, and a full tank of gas and a blitz can, a camper shell...

Pick up some fat chicks to ride with you to the station!!:p :p :D Seriously.....I have been known to take 75-100 lb tractor weights and hide them under seat/floormats/bed mat to get it a little lower for the "local 5.0" but now that I'm 6 in. over limit "fawk it" give me my ticket so I can "carry on". Just an idea for you....... :D

instead of moving he needs to get involved. no place to ride the motocross bike ? = get involved, ridiculous lift laws = get involved, no matter how small the contribution you can make a difference.

New Hampshire is almost the same only the measure the rear most portion of the frame. It is supposed to be 29 inches but it was 31 a couple of years ago. The best way to get a sticker around here is to go to a very small town and find the most run down looking shop. I like everything in this state but the dam lift laws. Does any one know where I could find the EXACT laws for this state and how could I get involved to try and change them.

Ya, the NH inspection station didn't like the fact that my front tires (barely) poked out of the fenders. He asked if I had wider wheels up front!?! No, I explained, all 4x4s have wider axles up front. Anyway I told him if he didn't give me a sticker I would just drive home and bolt the stock skinnys back on and come back. LOL

I drive the local PD around here nuts 'cause I'm living in MA but registered in NH. Active Duty Service loophole.:flipoff2:
