The dealership in Tulsa just informed me that the poping noises I am beginning to hear from the front end when I turn sharp at low speed are my front axles. They want $2,000.00 to repair. My cruiser is in excellent shape but $2,000 for repairs! No salvages seem to have front axles. They want to sell axles and pumkin for $1,600. I would really appreciate any help you guys may be able to provide. Thanks

How many miles? '92 is fulltime 4wd right? Go to dealer parts dept., look up front axle on computer, look at outer axle joints(birfields),they're like C.V. joints in a fwd, shouldn't be more than $300 ea. at dealer. Check yellow pages for axle rebuilders, should be around $130. Get a factory shop manual and do it yourself. Give yourself a full day the first time. If you wheeled that POS you would already know this :flipoff2:

Do yourself a favor and switch the drive plate hubs from side to side. Because the 80 series are full time four wheel drive, they get more abuse than previous cruisers. They tend to start to make a little noise after 100K, as the splines in the hub wear to the birfield splines.

I don't know exactly what you need, but I was finding FJ80 front axles for $125 each on car-part.com
