all right i am going to build up a new rig. and i want to here what you think of my ideas. so here are the specs. but i have to remind everyone it will be very low buck. i will build all of it.
fj55 cut the top off but no bob job, i need the room
500 in caddy and turbo 400
divorced np 205
rock wells with a welded rear and a detroit front.
caged and braced all over.
fj 62 ps box with saginaw pump
hydro assist 1.5 in cyl
48 in. michilins on home made bead locks
56in. chevys all the way around with the rear moved back about 10"s and the front moved out 5"s
i have every thing but the tires and the divorced 205 i think i might get the whole rig put together for under 2200 total. if some one has some more ideas i am open to different directions. but i decided to go with the leaves just to keep it simple and easy. i am not looking for a ramp queen just some thing that will kick ass and not break. i am going with classic tags on this one to be street legal and not have to mess with emmisions. plus they are only 50 bucks for 5 years.mike

Personally, I don't an FJ62 steering box is going to stand 48" tires for very long. I would strongly suggest something like an AGR box, or maybe hydraulic assist? I realize you're going for a budget buildup, but to run those tires, the steering will have to be addressed.

i have a complete set up with a saginaw box and hydro boost off a diesel truck i was thinking about using. just haven't set it on the frame to see what its going to take to put it all together. it will be shackle reversal in the front. keep em coming

If you're gonna lop the top off a 55, please tell me you're using an already jacked up body.

Other than that, sounds cool :D

Mike

Sounds cool, I want to help!

I think you should go full hydrolic steering though...forget the FJ-62 box...

sounds pretty sick as long as the drivetrain is beefy as hell.

I can help in this department, come about June. Gonna swap the "practise body" off the one I'm driving with the one I'm cleaning up in the back yard.

Once I'm done, its yours (or anyone else)

the 55 that i am getting is by no means a cream puff it has been set up for 5+ years and pretty rusty. and sun baked to hell. i am keeping the wind sheild this time[ to damn cold in the mornings in colorado and oklahoma] and i want to make the doors into at least half doors. other than that it should be a lot like my fj 62 that i have now. i just don't want to be without a wheeler so i will keep my fj62 till the fj 55 is done. mike
