: Track/Kick Options
mudlite 01-21-2002, 03:17 PM So what are the options on the Sidekick 1.6, tranny ,t-case?
I am thinking of doing something, but want cheap. No summo gears or Klune-V here. I want to transplant the combo into the Zuk. HAs anyone with Toy axles done this? Using the 1.6 Auto tranny, is there any adapter for toy cases?
I have Mud Lite, the overpowered, geared, locked, tired, beast.
Now I want the local beater, light weight, geared, puddle hopper.
Bring it awn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:flipoff2:
gunracer1 01-21-2002, 04:05 PM shaffer had that set up in his. a kick tranny and t case to a zook t case with a jack shaft to his front axle.
kerry1.6-toyota 01-21-2002, 05:15 PM Why not just put a Toy transmission behind the 1.6. With one t-case its shorter than the Kick trans and t-case and with two cases it’s only 3.5 inches longer. Added benefit is that Toy components are stronger and are much more versatile as far as dialing in a crawl ratio that you want to have!
Possible crawl ratios with Toyota W56 Transmission:
3.954 x 2.28 x 5.29 ======= 48 to 1
3.954 x 4.00 x 5.29 ======= 84 to 1
3.954 x 4.70 x 5.29 ======= 98 to 1
3.954 x 2.28 x 2.28 x 5.29 = 109 to 1
3.954 x 2.28 x 4.00 x 5.29 = 190 to 1
3.954 x 2.28 x 4.70 x 5.29 = 224 to 1
3.945 x 4.00 x 4.00 x 5.29 = 335 to 1
3.954 x 4.00 x 4.70 x 5.29 = 393 to 1
3.954 x 4.70 x 4.70 x 5.29 = 462 to 1
Possible crawl ratios with Toyota R151F Transmission
4.31 x 2.28 x 5.29 ======= 52 to 1
4.31 x 4.00 x 5.29 ======= 67 to 1
4.31 x 4.70 x 5.29 =======107 to 1
4.31 x 2.28 x 2.28 x 5.29 = 118 to 1
4.31 x 2.28 x 4.00 x 5.29 = 208 to 1
4.31 x 2.28 x 4.70 x 5.29 = 244 to 1
4.31 x 4.00 x 4.00 x 5.29 = 365 to 1
4.31 x 4.00 x 4.70 x 5.29 = 428 to 1
4.31 x 4.70 x 4.70 x 5.29 = 504 to 1

Hey John, I sent you a PM (at work) with a bunch of photos. Mike Shaffer's Sidekick drivetrain with a Sam t-case behind looks interesting. After looking at it I see that he is able to get away with that set up because he has the pillow block for his stub shaft attached to his front suspension arm - down low it clears the output on the Sidekick t-case and the longer shft follows the same arc as the suspension.
The volvo tranny replacing the intermediate shaft looks neat. I'd go that route before I'd go LJ t-case. The LJ-t-case is just too damn small I think. I dunno if it will live behind a 1600cc getting the snot beat out of it. :) I'd make up a "chassis" to have the three gear boxes pseudo undivorced (no intermediate shafting). Might even be able to get away with high rpms and no vibes that way...
I do have that TracKick t-case with the front output lopped off and a plate heliarc'ed in place. It comes apart like stock for servicing so it wouldn't be too hard to live with. If you want to trade housings (I need/want a stock one) you are welcome to it as I will probably never use it. I want to keep the internals as they are only 48k kms (from Suzukasaurus). The internals from your case will fit no problem, just remove the chain and the front output and you are ready to go. If there are any other differences I still have the other Trackick drivetrain that I bought from you ages ago. We can canibalize that if necessary.
Hmm, the more I think about it the better that plan sounds. You will reduce your drivetrain 80% when the Trackick t-case is engaged. With the stock Sam case that would be the equivalent of around 4:1 or you can use 2.26 low with the TracKick case not engaged. No need to touch the axle gearing...
Don't know about the length though... Cut off the rear quarters and move the rear axle back as far as possible if necessary?

Whats involved in the 1.6 to toy tranny?
What else makes up the list? 1.6 engine+toy tranny+2 toy cases?
I was trying to make this a budget truck. How much do the adapters go for?
kerry1.6-toyota 01-23-2002, 03:17 PM $399 for the adapter that fits the Toy W56 tranny.......or $499 for the adapter that fits the R151F Tranny.
I like my kick tranny tcase to toy case. OTT does nice work. Haven't got the truck together yet but getting a dual case setup by buying only one adapter was a very convincing thing.:D

Have any pics? What did the adapter cost? How is the overall length? How is the rear driveshaft? What is your final ratio?

I think OTT is asking something like $450USD. Dunno if they discount for us Canadian peasants. :)
Ratios would be something like 1.825 x 2.28 (4:1) for a Trackick t-case x Toy t-case. With aftermarket gears (budget, what budget?!) you'd be looking at 4.24 x 4.7 or around 20:1 (!!!!????!!!!)
Bwahaahahahaha!
kerry1.6-toyota 01-23-2002, 07:55 PM Crawl ratio with the Tracker/Kick tranny and t-case with a stock Toy t-case would be as follows with a 5.29 ring and pinion.......
3.652 x 1.816 x 2.28 x 5.29 = 80 to 1
The kick tranny tcase to toy case setup is around 5" longer than a stock kick tcase setup (around 43" overall) so its nice and short.
I'm waiting for my tranny to come back from the shop so I've got no complete together pictures but I'll be sure to post some when I get it all together in my new frame.

Why are you thinking to move to a lighter and poorless torque setup? Do you think will work better a lees power but ligther one over cubic inches and weight?
It is a weight think the reason to change?

NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still have Mud Lite with the 4.3 and 38's. It will be my out of town , extreme trail truck. This new project is for local trails.
People were getting to intimidated by it and were shying away from our club.
I have my hands on an 89 Kick with 1.6, Auto, and am thinking of droping this into my new project " Crash Test" and sticking the stock t-case behind it. It will be only trail use with 33's and a cage.
It has no lights, doors, windshield, targa bar, rear or passenger seat. sterio or even a CB. I have removed the front fenders, opened up the rear fenders and removed the flares. I have spent the past few weeks welding the body patches in as it was a rusty POS.
Has anyone run an Auto Kick with ultra low gear?

Really? That's weird. You'd think they would come out to see it in action.
Auto should work well. Its a GM TH180 so it'll kind of be like a mini TH-350. :) It's the same tranny that is in the Chevette (sort of).
GBRAVO 01-24-2002, 07:34 PM UHFFF!!!!...... is good to hear that, no I can sleep quite. Thanks mud lite.-
