I recentally found a dodge full size truck. It is two wheel drive and has a v8, auto tranny and looks like a dana 60. It apears to be late 70's early 80's. Any one know the size of engine, type of tranny, and maybe gear ratio in axle. Any help would be apreciated.

If it's a V8, it has either the 318, or 360.
Note that these are the "Pre-Magnum" engines and will have a lot less power than the engines produced after '92 or '93. (I think)
As for the other specs you are asking about, they are dependent partially on the engine, but also whatever options it was equipped with from the factory, or if there have been any mods to it since then. There should be a sticker somewhere that tells some of this info, either in the door-jam, the glovebox or maybe on the inside of the hood.
Now, if there has only been one owner of the truck, then that info will be what you have in the truck, assuming that one owner hasn't changed anything. But, if there has been more than one owner, it's pretty hard to tell what gears you will have in there without pulling the axle apart and taking a look.

round or rectangle headlights? round would be 73-79 and rectangle would be 80-92. if round, is the distributor in the front or back of the motor? front would be a 400 or 440, rear would be a 318 or 360. auto would be a 727 and the manual would be a 435 with either a "granny" or normal 1st gear. 8 lug would mean a 60 or maybe a 70 in a 1 ton. round headlights and 1/2 ton means a 5 on 4.5 lug pattern 9-1/4 corporate rear (if 73 theres a possibility of an 8-3/4 rear, no diff cover), rectangle means a 5 on 5.5 lug pattern 9-1/4 rear. gear ratio, no way of telling unless theres a tag on the diff cover. hope that helps.:D

if it is a 3/4 or 1 ton, 98% of em had 30 spline dana 60's. Otherwise, the rest of the info has already been posted.

Thanks for all the info. I know it has the 8 lug. I havnt been back to check the rest out. This rig was illegally dumped on my friends property. Some crack head moved left it with some friends, and after a year or so when the guy never reterned. they rolled it down the hill to land on my friends property. My friend told me he would give it to me I dont want it ,all I want is the rear axle. If somone wants it they can have it, besides the axle. It has been there for a month or so if nobody wants it he will have it towed.

i fthe body is straight, it runs, and you are close enough I will come and get it ASAP!

Sorry but I live in Placervile California. Body is not to bad, there are some new parts on the engine but no keys and no history havn't a clue what works and what dosn't. It is also 2wd.

One weak and it gets towed.
