: First time on Rubicon

After owning a Jeep for 6 years I finally made it to the Rubicon last weekend 9-11th with 3 others from our club. It turned out to be easy in some areas and forget it in others.

In between Spider and Buck I managed to destroy my right front fender and the little sluice took a bite out of my right rear. It seems I missed the escape rout by about 50 feet. My Atlas also acted up...I think I sheered the bolts between the Atlas and transmission? O well it was fun just the same.

We picked up over 150 cans and other garbage stacked on the rocks at the little sluice that had been left some time durring the week. Somebody took the time to bag everything then left it there for the varmits to tear apart...go figure.

What threw me was the number of people making comments about how bad all the trash looked but did NOTHING to pick it up. Seems to me they just might be the same type of person that leaves the crap there to begin with. We picked up garbage when we saw it but nothing like that any place other than the little sluice thank god.

Spider was drunks and guns until around 2am. Nice combination. In light of other post about possibly closing Spider to public access it might very well be true? Tire tracks, garbage ect. It would be nice if people policed their camps better b4 they leave as well as Spider was no exception. We lost the fluid out of a front diff about 100 yards before camp but cleaned it up with an oil spill kit that we brought along.

Unless I'm mistaken campfires were shut down on 7/2 per a posting on this board. Once again not the case. It was interesting that the gal who issued our permit for our camp stoves didn't say anything about it though. My bad but I just didn't feel like walking around telling drunks with guns that there fires were illegal. Perhaps a conspicuous sign along the road at Loon lake might help?

I realize the springs are private property but still wounder about what the greens might think regarding the riparian areas being torn up. Not much sense in driving a vehicle up the middle of a riparian area next to an existing road only to get stuck in the mud but it was there.

Talked with some members of the Auburn Jeep Club on Saturday and Sunday. They seemed like a great group with genuine concern for the trail. Wish more were like that.

Limped out Cadillac Sunday but had a great time. Now to fix the Atlas and convince my wife tube fenders are cheaper than OEM replacement parts.

Glad you could make it! My brother-in-law came out from Texas for that same weekend and a buddy of mine (DangerRanger) had a buddy come out from Detroit.

We were at the sluice box on Friday and Sat. I'm afraid I tried to pick up that sac of cans too but it fell apart even more. No one in our group had a bag because we emptied before coming over to play, but when I did come back the stuff was gone. Apparently the thanks goes to you!

It can be tough some times though. We were in with our families (lots of gear and very little space) and couldn't really pick up other peoples stuff like I do when it's just me in my rig. I did find another bag on my way out though that I ended up throwing on top of my rig. It busted when I went to toss it in the containers at the top of the spillway... Beans all over my back seat! :barf:

I was the guy with the big Black Scout by the way. Which were you?

I remember a Scout in a big group at Spider. It was having engine problems I think. I was in the white TJ camped a short way from you with a white Toyota, camo YJ and yello CJ5. We were at the sluice Friday and just a short time Saturday. We cut out just after the buggy on mogs came down.

If it makes you feel any better we never ate any beans but thanks for picking it up just the same.

Glad you finally made it to the 'Con. But you are mistaken, campfires are still legal. Here's a link (http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/eldorado/currentconditions/fire-rx.html) that you can check for current fire conditions;)

actually myself and dr and another..maybe you microtus?? picked up the bags left from when we were out...unless there was others i missed when i repoliced the box area when we were done in the box...i crawled up the hill where the dork with the white toy was climbing next to the big tree and collected the remaining onlookers stuff. though a few of them WERE ACTUALLY packing out thier own stuff as they reported to me when i climbed up...just not the other stuff that i know was put there just that day, from the comments i think they got the point i was trying to make......i know for sure all the stuff on the ground and in the cracks was fresh.....cause sat @5:30-7 am i scoped the area(hey it was my first trip...and what a beautiful place it is at sunrise) and went back to camp to retrieve danger rangers terry bag and filled a whole terry bag and a 1/4 in 15 min...so it was all picked up before we went out to play. a shame it all goes to hell in an hour...

as for the idiotball with the shot gun.......i also had no way to ascertain whether he was out of ammo or not...cause i may have tried to have taken it away and clubbed him with it...kids and families camping all over...what a worthless pile of horseapples....we had just got in at that point so i was a bit concerned myself. my lil tiny tent is not bullet proof

all i know is i will come back...when i do i will be equiped to deal with all types of waste removal...kind of a shame on me, cause i should have been better prepared the first time since all of the info has been here for years..

i am truly sorry for you that get to regularly visit this jewel just to deal with the people that are worthless and will always do what i can to help..if it is taken away...

i just dont know.
