So, I've noticed a little gear oil dripping out of my xfer case over the last few weeks, but since the new baby and all the in-laws that have been over (they've been here a fawkin' month), I haven't been able to really check it out.
Well tonight, I crawled under there with a light, and found a couple hairline cracks in the body of the case! I haven't done any "serious" wheelin' for a couple of years, so I'm at a loss at why.
Anyways, its an 87. I need to know what yrs will fit. I'll start calling wrecking yards locally then branching out from there (unless anyone in the Portland OR area has an extra one for sale)
I know I've read before what yrs fit, but did a search and can't find it.... I'm thinking it was '85-'90, but I wasn't sure if the FJ62 had the same...
Sorry so long, I'm frustrated as hell:mad3: its my damn daily driver, so I can't have the down time to take it out and have it welded...

Are you sure those are cracks? The split style cases have little casting marks all over them that look alot like little cracks.

Unfortunately, yes, I'm sure they are cracks. I can see the gear oil leaking out of them...drip.....drip.....drip....:mad3: :mad3:
By the morning, I have a little oil slick that's about the size of a football on my new concrete.:mad2:

I have plenty of case parts. Let me know which part you need, and you can easily replace just the broken piece.
There are five main pieces to the case.
1. Reduction gear section. Sorry this is the only piece I don't have.
2. Front case half. Got a couple.
3. Front output housing. Ditto.
4. Rear case half. Ditto.
5. Rear output housing. Ditto.
You can have anything here for the cost of shipping. $5 should do.
Aw, crap, I am sorry. I was mistakenly browsing the cruiser section instead of the truck section. I really don't have any cruiser stuff.

82-87 are all the same case....
You should not have ANY problem finding one from a poster on this list.
You should not pay more than $400 on the outside.
I know of a guy that has one in Louisiana but it may be a week or so before he gets it pulled out.
Email me if you don't have any luck finding one.

Nick-
(I also replied to thread on CCoT, but you provide more details here).
Being a 1987, you have a 38mm idler case vs a 34mm idler. production is 10/85-8/87 for US models, although it continued to 1999 in H55 equiped trucks. These cases (complete) run closer to $600 as they are desireable for 5 speed conversions. The case (cast aluminum) itself is nearly identical through the run for both 34 and 38 idlers and it may be possible to machine out the idler hole on the rear half of a 34 mm donor to fit. The 34mm run cheaper, as low as $300, but your transfer shifter MAY NOT WORK. The case (AL only) is outrageous from Toyota new. If, you have no need for the 5 speed, any split case can replace your cracked one. Again, you should really check for real cracks as those do not fail like a one piece. Yours may be good. The idler "O" ring leaks as does the output flange which are easy fixes. How many miles on the truck/case, as it may be due for an overhaul already? Greg Riemer has used case onlys, but his e-mail is down. contact me off list for his phone.

I have an early split case for parts if you want to do the 34mm drill out mentioned above. Make an offer for what you need.

Thanks for all the awesome info guys! I'm still trying to soak it all in.
I mentioned my problem to a buddy, and he said it could possibly be welded. What do you guys think about that?
