My tow rig has a 14 bolt in the rear and would like to have a dulie in the rear. What is the difference between the 14 bolt and the Dana 70??

Can I make a 14 bolt a dulie?

Thanks Guys.

I believe I have seen people who just buy big fender flares and special rims to make there truck a dulie. I cant imagine too many problems with that except for lug bolt length/strength.

I'm 90% sure that the difference between a dually 14 bolt and a non dually is the hub assembly and the length of the studs. (Breaks are also different, I believe, but might not have to be changed.) My 14-bolt is a dually being used in a single wheel form and the studs are about twiced the length of a non-dually. They're also bigger, so that may mean different rotors, too.

A d70 rear will have either 16 splines, 30 splines, or 35 splines. Shaft diameter will vary depending on the spline counts. Otherwise, I'm not too sure about it.

I found a web site that sells adapters for the front and rear. But these adapters are over $700.00 for the set:eek:

Has anyone esle done this before?

Thanks,

If you're trying to convert the front, there are tons of people with dually font hubs that would probably gladly trade for yours. I don't know about the rear, though. Most people with dually rears just run the dually hubs, I think.

The dually rearend is 6" wider than the normal 14 bolt. the van housing can make up some of the difference. Using non-dually 14 bolt hub the lip that the wheel centers onwill have to be made to match the bud rim and longer lug studs installed. Hope this helps

Shawn - why not get a "cab and chassis" 14 bolt that is already set-up for dually wheels? I got one here (N. Cal) from a wrecking yard for $200 - they are a bit rarer than the single wheel 14 bolt. FWIW, the cab and chassis axle is actually narrower, but when you put the dually rims on they are wider than a single wheel set up.

I think that is what I will end up doing. I was hopping to make it as cheep and easy as poss.

a 14 bolt dually axle is the same width as a SRW 14 bolt axle. The difference lies in the hub and it's location in the spindle. The spring pads on a 14 bolt dualie are set a little more inboard than a SRW. The WMS on the hub is about 2 1/2" or without measuring it. The SRW 14 bolt WMS is much closer to end of the hub. DRW 14 bolts have much deeper brake drums. The backing plate is set inboard about 2" furthe in then the SRW. The axle shafts are interchangeable. The WMS to WMS is 62" on the DRW and 65" on the SRW. If you need the measurements I have the DRW 14 bolt going in my Willys wagon.
Hope this helps.
