I loanded out my el-cheapo manual so I have no electrical diagrams.
Basically, the headlights on my YJ go out intermittently. Sometimes, they'll work all night. Other times they will flash on and off a few seconds at a time. And even worse, they will just go out.
Is this the switch going bad, or is it a relay?

It's the damn square lights.. The shape fawks with the 'lectricity.. That's why MoPar changed 'em back to round... but they don't want you to know, 'cause if people found out, they'd have to recall 'em all 'n' either sawzall 'em out round 'n' put real headlights in 'em, or destroy 'em all in a secret desert location, where the evil square-lighted beings couldn't get out 'n' pollute the Jeep gene pool any further....
To pacify yourself in the mean time, you could check the headlight switch, the high-beam switch, and the headlight wiring and grounds.

Mine went out for about 5 seconds at 1030 pm goin' down the hill and around a hairpin curve on ice house road.....A moment of "oh shit I'm gonna die" and they came back on.......Haven't had a problem in 3 yrs. so I guess they got fixed by the headlight gremlin. :cool2:

I replaced the switch but the switch gets hot and does that so I put relays off of the switch. That takes the load off of the switch so it doesn't get hot. Haven't had any problems with it since.

i had a similar problem and found the wires at the fuse block in the engine compartment were afu. i used in line splices and bypassed the fawked up area at the fuse block. no problems since.
