View Full Version : 30 Spline Longfield Super Set The Strongest Front Axles For Toyota's Ever!

Longfield
07-17-2004, 08:33 PM
No these are not a birfield eliminator kit. These are stonger and affordable.

We have went as far as we can go with the birfield material we are currently using today.

It's become obvious that we need more strength in a Toyota front axle now that they are coming out with transfer cases that allows you to do front wheel digs in competition, hard core trails and larger tires.

1- This Longfield is made from 4340 chromoly. The bell is longer for added
strength.

2- The inner race and cage is a completely different and stronger design
that is patented. It is made from 300M and also made longer for
added strength. The new design is much stronger at full turn.

3- The balls are smaller to give the bell and inner race added thickness.

4- The inner axle is also made from 4340 chromoly. It is now 30 splines at
both ends. We also eliminated the big snap ring groove. No martack
need, these inners will come with the c-clip in place on the very end of
the axle that snaps into the Longfield. This c-clip snaps inside the race
to prevent the inner axle from sliding either direction.

5- If you noticed this new Longfield is designed to increase your turning
radius by tapering the Longfield on the inside of the bell. So the inner
axle does not come in contact with the bell and bind. These
Longfields will turn up to 48 degrees.

6- All these parts are properly heat treated and cryogenically processed
from the supplier to assure us of wearability and added strength.

This 30 Spline Super Set will sell for a low price of $635.00 for all 4 pieces delivered right to your door.

We currently have 6 prototypes being tested now. They will be available for sale in about 4-6 weeks.

For tech questions call BOBBY LONG 253-847-8254

I have money waiting on the 27 spline version when ever ready, I would like to get them now, but will have to make something work, not going to miss out on these.

Thanks Bobby, Great work, and like mentioned, you other style lasted great, but wear out to a point of being too loose. Are these harder as to not wear and give some more of the strength of the materials?? Dont want to spend the money only for them to wear out like the rest.

THESE NEW STYLE 4340S ARE HARD ENUFF AND PLENTY STRONG FROM THE SUPPLYER SO WE DON"T HAVE TO HEAT TREAT THEM AND SOFEN THEM LIKE THE OTHERS. THEY WILL LAST A LOT LONGER.

In the future do you think that you will do the "treatment" on these if requested. I don't drive mie ever on the road in four wheel drive. I wouldn't mind it wearing out faster if it meant more strength. Some of the competition only buggies might dig that as well.

Looks like a great product to upgrade the Toy axle to a greater performance level. But I got a question? How far can you rotate the knuckle on a fully assemblied axle before you crush the seal on the back of the knuckle against the knuckle ball recess?????

ginericfj80
07-20-2004, 08:34 AM
Any chance of coming out with the larger 80 series birfs out of the same material? With a lot of 80 series birfs at a point in their lives of wearing out (fulltime notch developing in them), there is a definite need for a good aftermarket replacement. What is currently available isn't very good! And both of my 80s will need birfs in the near future. 207,000 miles and 197,000 miles.

Everyone knows there are other limiting factors. The wiper seal as you pointed out, and more commonly the tire hitting the leaf spring. The main reason for Bobby's comment was because of the first and second generation longfield. On the first generation design the inner balls would bind against the welded on ring if you didn't adjust your steering stops just right. On the second generation design he used a smaller ring so the balls wouldn't hit the ring, but found that the axle shaft itself would come in contact with the ring at full turn and bind. This new design has been manufactured with extra material in the bell area and designed to where the axle will not bind against the bell.

What do you think the tire size limit is on these things?

Hypothetically speaking, If a person has been running 39.5" IROK's with your original style Longfields ;) could that same person run 42's or 44's with the same success. :smokin:

I would think that 42s would not be out of line, 44s MAYBE. Ware is the next week link,??? Maybe the ring an pinion we heat treat them know for drag cars, and a few off roaders. So the ring an pinion is not as brittle and won't crake or chip.

We heat treat and cryo any size ring an pinion $45.00. We do new and used, if you send me a new ring an pinion when its heat treated you don't have to break it in, just put it in your rig and beat on it. Or how many miles do you have to drive to break it in. Not only does it make it stronger but its already broke in. ANY QUESTION CALL 1-253-847-8254 :)

Yes you are right. The prototypes have been tested several times in a mechanical machine and in the field months ago. All of the bugs have been worked out. Now they are building the final product which will hopefully be here in a week. This testing has been going on for about 7 months now. :)

Bobby,
My compliments and gratitude for an outstanding product that enables me to stick with my 77 cruiser axles by just upgrading the guts with great stuff like your Chromo Birfs. :grinpimp:

I think I've missed some obvious options:

1. Can one use PIG 300M inner axles with your Chromoly Birfs?

2. Can one buy both (4340 Birf/300M Inner) thru you at a higher price than all 4340?
OR
3. Buy just your 4340 birf bells without inners from you at a price reduced since you wouldn't be including the inners?

I know :shaking: more money and maybe overkill. But I still want to know what the ultimate combination is now and the source/cost.:cool2:

Thanks

Yes unfortunatly this happens approximatly 3 out of 100. We've improved the inner cage and the bell, so the weak point is sometimes the stub shaft. Sorry to see your breakage. So does this mean that you can make F/HJ-60 long side shaft with longer inner splines (maybe 3 x longer than stock). It's for Land Cruiser HJ-61 with cable locking differentials.

Here's picture where at top is F/BJ-40 long side and at bottom is HJ-61 long side and you can see how long inner splines are compared to stock.

Yes we can make any lenght or custom splines like yours. When you by the kit then you must fax us the lenght you need for everything. :)
