Downey seems to be the only place with a decent price for a "profile"
(curved around the dash) front hoop cage kit. Anyone installed one? How was the fit?

Downey does not make cage kits; they buy them from Smittybilt, just like I do. Smitty carries two basic types, 74 and older, and 75 and newer. Most 4wd shops that carry Smitty can order you one, and may save you shipping costs. Just a thought. :)

I would not buy lawnmower parts from Downey. Get the metaltech cage from Mark. Fits perfect.

I personaly would go with the metal tech cage just because I have not talked to one person that had anything really negative to say about it. Although I cant talk bad about the smittybuilt cage since it saved my brothers life when he rolled my FJ on the highway. It definatly was done after that though.

For what its worth....I'm running the Smitty back bar and front cage and it has held up very well to , you know, 4 or 5 rolls. One of them was very hard and the bar tweaked a little, as it should have. That said, if there's a vendor on the board selling bars, I would buy from them first.

PS: He has some new designs coming out. Just needs to get them loaded onto the metaltechcage.com site.

Thanks for the replies. Metaltech has some cool stuff and was considering buying from them. But for $120 less I could get a Downey cage and since my cruiser is less then perfect looks are not important, I just want to keep the rocks off my head. Although a roll cage is not the place to skimp on quality, for a slow roll while crawling I think a cheaper kit would work. Am I wrong? Maybe I will find a pot of gold on the way home today.

If its only $120 then I would go with the MetalTech. Don't use your home a/c for a week and you won't notice the difference in price :D
