My 93 YJ is going SOA . I tried a search but came up with nothing that applied to my year. I have printed out a "How To" a while ago but you all are the experts.

1) Am I going to need to do something with my steering : I heard that tie rod ends tend to get destroyed if I don't go with a high-steer set up.

2) Drivetrain : Going to get a SYE with a CV joint : Are there differences in SYE's? Who's SYE is better?

3) I have a 4" pro comp SUA on now (it SUCKS) Should I take the main spring and chop it for military wrap and add it to my stock spring-pack for support?

Thanks in advance.

You CAN get away with a z shaped drag link. Usually you end up doing high steer. That's what I did. Basically, you need to figure this out before doing the SOA - stock setup will not work, the drag link will hit the springs, I believe. Could be wrong.

I guess the ones with the heavier duty shafts are the better SYE. However, when I did mine I asked myself if I was actually going to KEEP the 231. The answer in my case was NO, so I bought the cheapest one I could find, I only needed it to last until I swapped out that stuff. Point is, don;t sink a whole bunch of money into your 231 if you're not going to keep it. Just my 2c.

You could try using the main leaf as you have suggested, but I'm not sure how well that would work. Most people around here (including me) just get 2 sets of stock wrangler leaves, use the 4 5 leaf (rear packs), add the 4 leaf mains (with the ends chopped off) to each pack for 6 leaves all around (5 leaf pack + doubled main), then 'tune' from there with the other leaves available in the wrangler packs. In my case I also did this because I was then able to sell my 4 inch RE (ProCrap, same thing) kit to help pay for everything, plus I can pick up wrangler packs used reasonably easily. My 6 leaf packs flex awesome and haven't sagged, but I only have abut 4 months on them. I'm putting an antiwrap bar on before next wheeling season, the spring wrap without it is horrendous.

Hope this helps.

I'd stay away from a "Z" draglink. It may work for a while, but it will bend/break at the most inopportune times. Search again for SOA YJ and you'll get tons of info. The year of your YJ won't matter for something like this.

I don't know of any major differences between the SYE kits out there. Mine is from advanced adapters and I'm happy with it.

As for your springs, all sorts of people use just about every combo or spring you can think of. JC Whitney even sells cheap ass YJ springs. The heavy duty ones are like six or seven leaves which is nice. I would also definitely figure a traction bar in your budget. The one from Sams Offroad is a great design that can easily be duplicated if your handy with the welder.

Good luck.

have sillyneck make you an S'd drag link and a super whammy antiwrap bar. get some BDS springs they have a no questions asked guarantee. get the xtra stiffener too.

see highangledrivline for the short shaft kit.

are your brakelines and shocks long enough?

Radbassist, (I play bass too)
You might try my website with lot's of SOA info.

I've done (9) SOA's. Yours will be a piece of cake.
I've done some hi-steer, but my own CJ8 is still stock tie rod (with a 1" angle welded on for strength) and the 4" drop pitman arm. Clearance shouldn't be a problem with the springs.

Jefe- I just got done printing out your info- Much appreciated!! "Rock on Bassist!"

Kid - I have RS9000's. BUT, will I have enough "UP" travel to stuff a tire in the wheel-wells? I did buy the shock loop (bolt on thingy) so I don't have the "post" at the top of the shock. I have brake line extentions too along with new spring perches. I haven't read all the stuff from Jefe's printout so he may have gone over that stuff I don't know yet. My stock springs gonna be too weak after more than 3 or 4 trips? Recommend BDS?
I'll give Sillyneck a buzz too...

Thanks guys,

Here.....
