finnaly drove the cruiser after the sm420 swap. it craaaawwlllsss! omg! even in 2hi, in granny gear...its still like 100% slower than my 3spd in 4lo. whoa! . anyhow..it is definatly an old truck tranny. no more smooth shifting or speed shifting. its all slamming and grinding from now on! lol.

--- one concern though, while the cluth is out, its like i can actually hear the fritction of the clutch. its not slipping thouhg, but it sounds loud. its not slipping or smoking or smelling thouhg. also, i do have the floor out and only the drivier seat in, leaving the floor out till i do linkage tomorow. could that be it? i mean no barier between the tranny and me?
--- anyhow...no more bouncing over shiot. did i mention it CRRAAAWWLLLLS!!???!!! :p

Did you put a new throw out bearing in? I put a brand new one in mine and it wailed like mad. I had to take the entire thing apart and pull the throw out bearing and put it back in. DOH!!!

I love my SM420....that is the best thing I ever did to my cruiser.

BAHAHA You sound like I did after my tranny went out and I had to pull the fawker again after the throw out bearing ordeal.

When you push the clutch in the sqealing stops??

It is not unusual to hear the clutch disk friction when you let out the clutch, especially if you have a new disk and the tranny hump is off. I wouldn't worry about it if it doesn't make noise witht he clutch all the way depressed or when the clutch is completely released.

Which adaptor plate did you use?

i used the wardens plate, pilot stuff and spaceghost's b.h. retainer/fitment thingy.
--- it doesnt sound like squeling though, its like a low, frictiony sound. ill have jeff listen to it tomorow when i go over there. but yes it stops when the clutch is in.
--- i just wanna know if i have to pull it for the 3rd time!

If it's not sqealing....FAWK IT!! Run it man. I can hear my throw out bearing too...but only because I know what it is and what is happening. Everyone else thinks I am crazy.

You should only hear the friction of the clutch as you are letting it out. If you hear the friction noise when the clutch is depressed, try putting it into non-synchro first or reverse. If it grinds going in, the clutch is dragging and needs adjustment. If it doesn't grind, it is probably just fine. The new disk has some high spots and loose fibers dragging and after you drive it around a bit they will wear down smooth and run quiet.

I ran mine like that for 2 1/2 years before I pulled it out last week and changed out the tranny.

DO NOT pull it for that. Run it! Get it!

Have fun, :smokin:

Sounds like a throw out bearing to me, but it could because its too loose in the fork and not enough presure on the presure plate. Might be a simple adjustment, I'll look at it for you tomorrow.

hook it all up to a jig suspended from a forklift
unbolt it all, lower it down, change and raise it back up, push it on

gearboxes, went from being a weekend and more nightmare to an afternoon... NICE

i know the swap would make it slightly more difficult, but not too much
