i have a sprung over 40 and it rides stiff as hell and could flex better than it does. i was thinking about taking a leaf out of each of the springs. is this a wise choice or not? if so which one of the leaves should i take out?
thanks

Wait,

You have a spring OVER and it rides stiff?

Very odd.

Questions...

1)What kind of springs do you have? If they are stock, flat springs then it is something other than the springs making your ride stiff.

2)If they are stock, check the angle of your shackles and how tight your shackle bolts are. Make sure they can cycle and make your shackles be at an angle. 45* is very nice to make the ride soft.

3)If you have lift springs, throw them out and use stock flat springs. Lift springs have to fight the friction on the arch to flex and cause a stiff ride.

4)What kind of shocks do you have? if they are Rancho, they may be 9000's and need to be dialed down to 2-3 to make the ride less stiff.

5)Finally, I always run less than 20lbs in my Cruiser tires as the tires really help soak up the bumps.

Here is my rear shackle angle to give you an idea of a SWEET riding angle.

Allright Nolen quit showing off you bad ass cruiser. We all know Kate is the sheet man! Well, damaged goods now. HA HA:D
Are you going to replace the winshield frame?

how far have you guys moved your rear diffs back? is it just a spring flip or did you guys get different springs (bronco or 55 or something)

your both running 38s right?

Similar set up on both rigs but Nolen has better axles :flipoff2:
The rear is moved back by about 3.5" We are both using FJ55 rear springs. I initally just did a spring flip but after destroying a couple of springs I went to the longer spring. They flex better anyway....

And yeah 38.5x14.50x15's
:D

BTW, I have removed the bottom two and the number 4 leaf out of the 55 spring packs. They are super soft now....
I might put back the #4 spring...

I have the origional spring pack. No leafs out and I am happy as hell with the setup.

My fronts are reversed FJ-40's with only 5 leafs.

so a standard cruiser wheelbase for the 40 series short wheelbases is 89" is this correct?
and with 3.5" rear extension and a 3.5" front extension i reckon thats got 96" how did you get 100" ???

but i love your approach and departure angles they ROCK
id like to get my 40 up to the 100" wheelbase

Good question.

I also moved the entire front spring pack forward 4 inches (FJ-40 is 90" stock) for a total of 10".

Here is the shackle end of the front spring...see how I moved it all forward...

so you extended the front of the frame?
if you went straight out from the front of the frame and moved the rear hangers up, wouldnt yo lose a bit of height?

Yes, that is why I went with the stock shackle hangers below the frame as opposed to through the frame like many others do.

Kept my height and stretched the front.

Frosty FJ has a 106" wheelbase on his. He did the same as me in the front but in the rear, he moved the entire spring pack back 6 inches.

Wicked cool :smokin:
