: 10 inch wheels... yet another thread!!!
Super J 07-20-2004, 04:59 PM Ok... so I have brand new 15x10 eagle alloy type 589s sitting in boxes in my garage that I bought for a vehicle I already sold (5x5.5 bolt pattern).
The question is, I want to run 31s on my SPOA zuk..... is this too wide a wheel if I don't plan on airing down much? I'm planning on running 31x11.5x15 kuhmo muds since they are light and decently aggressive- won't be doing much rock crawling... just creek beds, small hill climbs, ruts... you know.. everything except bashing my zuk on the rocks (I'll watch my friends do that =).
Anyone else running 10s and liking them, or should I off 'em and take a $$ loss?
moto261 07-20-2004, 05:08 PM it wil only be a lil while tell you go beating on yours to
:massey:
ZukiRob 07-20-2004, 06:09 PM I am running 10" wide wheels with 33x12.5's. I would be scared to go any smaller of a tire then that on them.
shmoesmith 07-20-2004, 06:29 PM Brent at trail tough recomends running a 32x11.50 on a 15x10" aluminum rim. He says they air down great..One reason this works on an aluminum rim(according to brent)is because the aluminum(having MUCH MUCH more friction than steel)holds the bead better than a steel rim of the same size would...So, by the same standard, I would expect that a 31x11.50 would work well on a 15x10 wheel as long as its an aluminum rim..If you are going steel you had better run an 8" rim.
cheers :)
shmoesmith 07-20-2004, 06:30 PM oh, btw (since I have never done this before)
FAWKIN USE THE SEARCH BUTTON NEWB! :flipoff2:
I started a thread on a the perfect SPOA tire/rim package for a 31" tire only a few months ago and there is tons of info in it
cheers :D
RocKrawler 07-20-2004, 09:28 PM It will be close with that combo.. remember that a 32" will have a *slightly* taller sidewall, and be pulled out *slightly* less than a similarly wide 31" tire.. ideally a 9" rim would be better, but since you already have the 10's try them. Other options are beadlocks.. and with the amount you remove it will narrow the rim about an inch. One last option is to sell them and buy 10" wide MT (Mickey Thompson) Classic II's, look similar and pricing is close.. but the MT rims have a taller safety bead.. the bulge the tire has to go over to seat... and are much harder to dismount.. meaning also tougher to roll a bead off of than almost any other aluminum wheel. It is the best rim to run if you cant afford beadlocks, and has the same relative backspacing as the 0589 Eagles and ARE series 172 Baja's.

Heres some good info :)
tbone420 07-20-2004, 11:02 PM i think 8 inch rim if your not running beadlocks is the ticket. iv been runing 35 12.50 mtr's for 2 years on 8's and have had great luck.
SilverZuk 07-21-2004, 05:37 AM I would say no, your bead is going to get beat up.
Super J 07-21-2004, 12:27 PM Ok... screw you all. I'm going to try out the 31x11.5s on the 589s and see how it goes. =)
MudKick 07-21-2004, 12:56 PM OK, but remember when you scrape the crap out of them and pull the rubber off: we told you so... :shaking:

15x10 Eagle 589 aluminum rims with an 11.50 tire is what brent recommends and I have never known brent to be wrong. the aluminum rims are harder to bend than steel and due to being aluminum hold the rubber on MUCH better than steel rims. You ever try rappeling on a steel figure 8 or and aluminum? the steel is fast as hell because of low friction, the aluminum REALLY grips it because it has such high friction. The same holds true with tires. Yeah he migh scrape them some, but they are less prone to damage than steel(as far as bending them goes), are lighter in weight than steel(less axle breakage) and they have much more friction to hold your bead on......GO WHEEL THE HELL OUTA THEM BUD!
