Hey I was wondering if anyone has an experience with PAW motors? Yeah the guys with the big orange parts catalog. Looking to buy a rebuilt motor and saw that they have quite a few to choose from and wondered if anyone has any experience with them.

I have a PAW motor in my Jeep. Only problem I had with mine is that the freeze plugs leaked. i had to remove them and hone them out and replace. Also the block was the wrong color (who cares). Overall the engine is very healthy and runs great. I am quite happy with the product.

There was a big write up i one of the car mags about them a couple of months ago. I'll see if I can find it for specifics but the article was really positive.

That would be great, since they are close and I could go and pick it up and avoid shipping. Just wanted to make sure I was getting a good motor.

If its a hi-po engine I would stay clear of P.A.W. (Pick And Wonder). Maybe the daily frivers would be OK but anything else there are much better options. Talking from experience and friends at the strip.

Chad might have sumptin here. My experiance was with a mild SBC kit engine. It's still running in a friends truck today. After my post above, I talked to my neighbor, he owns Stoid Racing in Dallas and has been drag racing for many many years, he has some bad storys about they're so called high performance kits.

I DONT THINK IT WAS THE METAL CONTENT OR THE CAM WAS BAD......IT WAS JUST THE WRONG SPECS FOR YOUR APPLICATION.....THEY PROBABLY DONT EVEN MAKE THE CAMS IN HOUSE...JMO

I can't speak for PAW recently, or for their motors.

I purchased a Holley carb from them in the early 90's...supposedly new. Came in late, was obviously rebuilt, and with the wrong gaskets. Haven't bought from them since. The return was a hassle as well.

They've been off my list ever since.

I guess I should give you all a little more info. Looking to put a bigger/more power motor in my FJ60 springover and have a TBI 350 in the garage. Then I got to thinking why not bump it up to a 383.....then saw their 383 long block prices and thought instead of paying machine shop costs why not just buy one from them already done. So am I not thinking straight or should I look elswehere? Thanks:beer:

what he has had prob.s with is the kits from PAW that people would bring to him to assemble didn't work together very well (odd combo of parts, not what he would of chosen) and the machining not of the best quality. I'm talking about the 'you assemble' engine kits.

You get what you pay for...If you're thinking that these guys have a secret formula, and they can build a great motor for less than anyone else...forget it

as a rule everything cost the same to everybody, and the guys who can offer a Huge savings are usually skimping on the specs.
If you buy a weedwacker at home depot it will not be the same model # and spec. as the weedwacker sold at the professional lawn care supply house...they may have the same specs. ( to the layman), but, one will last 6mo. and the other will last 10 years, one cost $89 and the other cost $239.,.. If the price seems like a fantastic deal , it better be "hot" or it's just a average deal on substandard stuff that the other guys refuse to sell...

I'd rather buy a used original engine with some miles than a rebuilt core motor for the same price, when engines are rebuilt by mass production, you never know what you are gonna end up with...
