I had the same affliction, but I'm seeing things clearer now!

So with all that snow, is it easier or harder than when its dry? I've never really been snow wheeling before and never on the 'con so I am curious.

It's a little harder in the snow. ;)

Wasn't sure, looked like all the obstacles were buried and the rigs were just floating on top of the snow. Maybe someone needs to post pics of the hard parts in the snow :flipoff2:

I think the snow makes the easy stuff hard and the hard stuff easy. For example what used to be an easy hill climb ( walker hill ) turns into a mountain of ice that you allmost always have to winch up. On the other hand when we went on this trip the box looked as flat as HWY 50, as long as you stay on top of the snow you could have cruised through it at 20 MPH.

looks fun as hell- wow- those are the kind of pictures that make me want to visit california!

I wouldn't dream of doing "the box" at 20 mph in the summer, but I giggle at the thought in the winter

Which way do you guys go into the 'con for these snow runs? I would imagine that the granite bowl is pretty darn tough to climb if it is covered with ice and snow. Do you go the north route up post pile or maybe around bugle lake?

Actually in good snow conditions you can drive the bowl like sand dunes, hi range, 3rd gear HAULINASS!

Are you driving on Spider Lake in those pics, that would be awsome and would totally freak me out  Seems like it would be kind of hard getting there with the climb up and then the stair steps down.

climb up? throttle up!! I drove right up icer- er- walker hill, with a few tries. stair steps down?? remember there's a minimum of 6 feet of snow, and it doesn't conform to the "summertime" obsticals much. If you want to drive somewhere, with a set-up rig, point and shoot! The other guys I go with may beg to differ!!.:D As for driving on sierra lakes, I don't recommend it at all. Repeat NOT at all. I know the area like the back of my hand and feel I "kind of" can tell when it's do-able. There's always a HUGE risk involved-like death... What you don't see in the pic is the two other vehicles on shore with their winches ready IF something bad happened. NEVER drive on lakes used by smud or pg&e for power generation, as the lake level fluctuates, freezes, and refreezes in different levels the snow and ice is extremely unstable. You will die. (most of the lakes and reservoirs in that area are used for power generation.) Spider is not, Buck kind of is but doesn't suffer from the fluctuations.

bbj: 5 minutes with as shovel changes everything.

Keith: I put the top on so I could take my wife on a snow trip, too lazy to take it back off! She likes to be warm.

Jimmy & JIM: "old yella" is resting on a friends property. Just a few yards from a killer rock garden, It's not moving soon! 38's for now, I plan to mount my 42's in the spring.
