As the title implies I'm just looking for an overview on hummer rims. I might have a chance to get some real cheap and wanted to know the benifits etc. any links about them feel free to post.

the rims are 2 piece, there is an inner run flat and another spacer that spreads the tire out. when you put the 2 pieces together it presses the tire between the to halves and creates a bead lock. They work just fine, in the 5+yrs i have been in the military i have never had one fail.

I have a set and want to run these. Advantages are a fairly cheap 16.5" beadlock (double actually). Backspacing keeps track narrower. You might have trouble running them with stock backspacing, since the rim might interfere with steering. From what I have found in searching, guys use either wheel spacers or recenter them to whatever backspacing they want (what I plan to do). Also, I have read of people not liking the stock magnesium runflats due to them sticking out so far, I guess it could cut a sidewall pinching it against a rock. So they either cut down the runflat portion, leaving only the lock portion, or they buy different inserts. There is also a thread about some pipe you can use. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

As they've all said, the tire is just pinched between the runflat insert on both sides when you bolt the halves together. Stock there is a mag runflat that is sort of like an inverted T, but is also a PITA. Here are some of 66cjdean's inserts to give an idea.

there are actually 2 styles of runflats. the mag ones which are by far easier to get in and out as they are a 2 peice. There is also a solid rubber run flat, that takes a ratchet strap and some prying to get out. Getting the run flat and other insert in a new tire can be a PITA.
